VRS Estate Car help

Sorry to jump on thread, but why steer well clear?  Had a couple of petrol BMW's in the past, both were fantastic cars. It was my intention to buy a 320d auto when I decided on an estate last year but any car I found which fell within my definition of a good price, didn't have the spec I was after. ( that's not to say they weren't well spec'd, the cars I looked at were very well spec'd it's just that most of it was pointless for my purpose). From just a driving point of view, the 320d was untouchable by any other car I test drove.

Funny that because I overtake plenty of them in my SKODA, perhaps they don't know how to drive properly (most BMW drivers).:D

  • The wheels only kerb easily if you drive into kerbs. They’re no worse or better than any other wheel.

  • Great bit of advice and worth adhering to, IMO.  The one major drawback of R19 is tyre prices, in some cases double (or slightly more) than the equivalent R18.   Nearly £800 for a set of PS4's

  • Model year changes are around week 22 of the year I believe. So anything built (not registered!) after week 22 in 2015 is MY16 etc. In other words the cars you posted are already newer than MY15.

Agree just spent £720 on four Michelin PS4's 235/35R19 tyres but they are the best tyres I have ever had on any car. Doesn't matter whether the road is dry or wet traction is incredible and whereas the traction control light would light up in 3rd gear even in the dry (on standard Pirelli P Zero's) have never seen it flicker once. Yes they are expensive but you get what you pay for and the are SIMPLY AMAZING!

I am tempted. Might get some when these all-seasons are worn out. Hopefully good for one more winter and PS4’s for spring.

I know your car has 4 wheel drive but my front wheel drive car now launches away like it's been fitted with 4WD. Jaguar XJ driver the other day with the 3.0diesel (about 295bhp) must have wondered what engine I had fitted in the Octy as I absolutely toasted him from a standstill despite his superior (alledgely) RWD traction advantage!:notme:

Or maybe they just weren't bothered or interested in racing you on a public road ;)

You didn't see the speed he caught me at he was going well over the 50mph limit on that stretch of dualcarriageway.

Yeah but “racing for DVLA V5C’s” doesn’t sound as good as “pink slips”

You overtake BMW drivers therefore most of them don't know how to drive properly?   erm...  ok.

My competitive streak was drilled into me at an early age playing cricket for Leicestershire Under 15's and one of my team mates played professionally for Warwickshire.

Yeah but don't forget they are driving THE ULTIMATE MACHINE according to BMW so are bought by life's winners (or insert losers if you prefer).:D

Been and had a look at the car tonight before going for a test drive tomorrow morning.

Alloy wheels are all in very good condition toy eye and tread on tyres were all pretty reasonable (going to make sure I take tread measure with me tomorrow to make sure as one seemed bit more work than others). No idea on the brand of tyre though.

Sounds promising then. Tyres are fine.  Bridgestone’s.  Make sure and ask about service history. Is there outstanding finance?  Not a problem if there is.

Take it for a good run if you can. When the guy came to buy mine I planned a route that took him through town, A roads and up a small section of motorway. Try and get something similar if you can.

Already got an idea of a route I am going to ask to drive to take in stop start of lights along with getting onto a section of motorway to get it to 70mph.

Wasn't sure about the paint on the under carriage at first glance (see photo) with both sides the same as not seen that on any of my car's previously.

Didn't look inside tonight but will make sure I give it a good look over. From what I could see through windows though it looks to be in a very good condition overall.

Don't worry about the rough looking lower paintwork that's the way the underseal appears on all Octy's. It prevents rust.

I seem to recall having it on a company car years ago but couldn't remember the reason for it.

Had a good drive of the one priced £17k today. Drove it on local roads with speed bumps plus out onto a dual carriageway to get the speed up. No noticeable "boom" problem. Had it in Sport mode (or whatever it's called) for a bit and having not been used to it found it quite noisy to drive but don't think it was anything untoward just not being used to such a noise from an engine/exhaust.

My untrained eye in the engine didn't find anything that looked in poor condition and oil levels fine.

Front tires both have about 4mm tread left on them whilst rear wheels were both around 7mm. So plenty left. Tempted to ask them to switch front and rear around if I am to buy it.

Absolutely no budging in the price from the dealership and won't even knock the £99 charge off that they add on for vehicle history / outstanding finance etc.

Sleeping on it but think I will probably go for it. Weird trying to make mind up on buying a car having been a company car driver for 10 years or so.

The noise could be from the interior noise generator!

It can be turned down/off or unplugged.

There isn’t much exhaust noise from the vRS

They never paid £99 even including typing in the details to get the info on the Finance / Vehicle History.  £4.50 Including VAT.  Barstewards.

I hope you have the copy of it as they received it and you are paying for it, not just their word.

They were the buyers of the car, they had to be sure of the finance and history.

All sounds good would ask them to swap tyres front/rear which will at least delay need for a major purchase until a couple of years given your lower mileage. Go for it!

Yes I know it's a complete con! Most of the dealerships charge it (or try to) as it's a way for them to make easy profit as a volume business they have fairly tight margins

Tyre has date code of week 33 of 2016 so look to be original tyres.

Morning everyone.

Just wondering if anyone has any good websites for tyres at reasonable prices? Probably will be going ahead with buying the VRS this week but want to do a few checks on the costs such as the tyres etc so I don't have any shocks!

Thanks Tony

Will give that a look. Can't imagine prices will put me off but worth a look since us company car drivers are often ignorant to these things!

Got 4 P Zero's for a previous VRS in 225/40R18 size for less than £300 from Blackcircles in the past.:)
