Front and rear discs and pads

Featured Replies

My mk 3 2.0l 150 has been advised by dealer that the discs and pads on both front and rear are worn and required replacement,  31k but the quote is something stupid like near £700 to replace , so I’m look for advise on what type of aftermarket brakes people have purchased.  I looked on euro car parts they list lots of models but I a, wondering if the Bosch discs and pads are the way to go ? Or are there better or as good cheaper etc

thanks

Skoda fixed price maintenance price for pads/discs on Superb is £279 so front/rear should not be more than £558.

Pagid or Bosch for aftermarket. I replaced my Fabia ones myself and went to gsf with their mid range vetech. The braking was much better. I was told they had more returns of the Brembo discs. Pagid could only be bought online and I didn't want the disks thrown around in post.

Local motor shop sells Apex, interestingly the new to worn out thickness of the disks is double of most other disks, 2mm not 1mm. Service staff could tell me whether this meant they will last longernor not.

Local dealer sells 'budget brand' discs alongside their oem disks.

I’d go Pagid over Bosch as I’ve never had a problem with them.

If using ECP don’t forget to apply the discount code sale70, which will give you 50% off.

Get some Ceratec grease too instead of using copper grease. It lasts much longer and doesn’t attract as much dirt.

I would check/measure the discs and pads myself as 31k is a ridiculously short time. Probably just needs pads if that.

I once had a garage wanting to replace my front disc and pads on a company car as they were allegedly worn. What they did not know was that they were replaced 3 months before.

Considering they never take the wheels off now during a service you have to ask them to confirm by measurement not sight.

Also when I used to get my tyres changed they always would say you pads and discs are worn and should be changed.

Talk about up selling.

I refuse to take my car to the main dealer for anything, I use my local trusted independent garage as I have for the last 20 years. He uses genuine VAG parts and approved lubricants etc etc. Main dealer service £279, local garage £160!

Feel and have a look at the rear side of brake disc. This side always wears out first on all the discs I have replaced. Look for the rust rings that don't clear after braking.

There was a Saab in for its front brakes at 20k . user used brakes a lot.

I ve used Bosch recently on a Fabia and a Golf with no issues, seem good quality.  If you have looked at euro car parts then have a look at carparts4less.  You'll see the site is almost identical apart from the colours but it is always a lot cheaper, and get this, its the same company, or a sister company or something.  They always have a deal on at the weekend in the range of a 10 -20% sale (15% this weekend).  Quick delivery and good stock levels too.

I follow lots of drivers that use their brakes a lot. Especially well into and around bends:speechless:

Often I think they are resting their foot against it as I don't see any retardation.

Carparts4less is usually a bit cheaper than Eurocarparts, except when ECP run their fairly regular 50% off service parts promo (particularly brakes).

ECP has 3 advantages, reserve and pick up, free same day delivery?(though I haven't used this), and 365 day returns policy.

Another couple of percent off if ordered via Topcashback or Quidco

Oil is not cheap from either. Opie oils are good for oil and spark plugs sometimes filters, I find, 10% off for Briskoda members.

Motorhomesscotland (Parks Motor Group) on ebay is usually cheapest for quantum motor oil.
