New mk3 owner - car needs a polish!

Featured Replies

Just got my 2015 2.0 tdi SE L yesterday and hav to say I'm not dissapointed. Had a mk1 elegance and mk2 se before this. Only complaint is the state of the paint. Its a black magic but i think its been through a mechanical was every week since new. Looked at it initially in direct sun and the scores were shocking and the paint dull. Have plans to pay for a machine polish but wanted to see if some of the scores and swirls would come out by hand. Not great photo but this was 5 mins with autoglym srp on the rear bumper. Hav high hopes for the proper polish!

SRP is a filler polish so will hide/mask some of it but the machine polish is the one you want for properly and permanently correcting the paint :)

If your plan is to take it somewhere for some proper machine polishing I honestly wouldn’t bother trying anything yourself.

That was just out of curiosity Scott, but even my feable attempts made a huge difference so looking forward to a professional's results.

Don't hav any good sunlight to really show up the swirls. That's why i used the flash from the phone for a bit of a before/after photo.

Black magic looks great when clean but it's a pain to keep clean.

The original owner went a bit mad with the options. Xenons with AFS, LED DRL and black fogs, Columbus Nav, Self Parking, Winter Pack, Met Paint, 5 year warranty and Spare Wheel. About £4000 worth of options.

Only did 20k miles in it then traded it in for a new Facelift model in exactly the same spec and colour.

Unfortunately I haven't driven it for three weeks as the DSG is playing up. Making use of the 5 year warranty.

Smart looking Octavia. I enjoy cleaning the car, I find it therapeutic but I had a Black Polo and it was a nightmare to keep cleaning and polish well without swirls. Hope the DSG is sorted soon.

On a black car nothing for it but a proper machine polish, i would get a ceramic coat as well if your are going to all the effort which will save you time money in the long run on maintaining and keeping it clean. If you are doing this yourself Sonax have a number of really good products that dont require professional use as ceramic can be difficult to apply but its all about the paint correction and prep.

I have a DAS6 pro which is a entry level polisher but has enough watts to get the job done, you need to choose your compounds and pads correctly and it'll take a day or two just to polish it.

this is a before and after, i used Carpro fixer which is a medium abrasive, you can see the swirls clearly

this is after just one pass with the DAS6 pro and carpro fixer. Its not perfect i would say 90% done and one more pass would nail it.
