DSG Repair. Expensive mistake by Skoda.

Featured Replies

Some of you may have seen that my Octavia has been in the dealers for DSG warranty work and it's now into it's third week.

I had the error workshop only leave vehicle in P message which needed a new gear lever. This was changed OK.

I also had minor clutch slip in 4th which the Skoda technician witnessed so Skoda agreed to change the clutch pack.

So new clutchpack fitted and the tech witnessed all sorts of issues, mainly loss of comms to clutch 2 so Skoda UK looking at the data approved replacing the Mechatronic.

New Mechatronics in and still the same.  Fault the escalated to Germany and more testing and measurements carried out and they are convinced the replacement clutch pack is faulty and requires replacing.

So new clutch pack and flywheel going in later this week.

It looks like the Mechatronics wasn't faulty.

I must say the dealers have been great in this but this would have been one hell of a battle if I was paying instead of Skoda.

Wow, the running total for this bill must be getting high now! This is exactly the sort of scenario where warranty comes into its own; garage throwing parts at it but at someone else's expense.

Hope your car is sorted soon!

It would be over £5k now parts and labour for a private owner out of warranty.

They sound a bit clueless. Chuck parts at it until it works.

For a repair like this the results of the diagnostics and measurements are sent to Skoda and Skoda UK approve the repair. It's not down to the dealers to decide which parts to change.

It's at Skoda's cost.

Interesting to know, but in my view this just spreads the incompetence up through the whole of the UK operation.

Luckily they only sell cars and not nuclear power stations.

By the way, if you ever wondered why we don't make our own nuclear power stations in the UK, this could be something of a clue.

They use the French to do it for China.

That will be the French that build Citroen / Peugeot, and maybe sometimes Renault if not done someplace where labour is cheap.

They will be who have bought Vauxhall from the Americans.

Britain Builds Nuclear Subs, America the Software / Guidance and they own the Missiles.   What's the worst that can happen.

Not just the UK.

Germany were also involved hence the delay.

No Czech involvement that I can tell.

And the parts came from Germany even though the DQ200 was probably built in the Czech Republic.

The dealer has been great with updates, information and loan car but at each stage it's either waiting for Skoda UK or Germany.

Power Plant maintenance around the world is how I make a living.

The biggest worry is never who builds and finances them, it's what specification they are built to and how they are maintained. There are massive differences around the world, China used to be among the worst, but the newer stuff is among the best. Cutting edge stuff, even with emissions, they have the money now.

Who built the ones in Scotland still in operation and then who did the work to give the extension to generation and when is that likely to end?

Maybe Derren Brown can answer the last bit?

Only one I've been to in Scotland is Longanett. Carbon Tax and lack of investment sealed it's fate.

Not nuclear, sorry misunderstood what you did.

Submarine Nuclear Reactors / waste are stored just down the river a little from where you were at Longannet though.

Lovely place was it not, from the distance, not close up though.

Done some nuclear but it's very difficult to get in now, the maintenance contracts are usually tied in for decades.

Steam/thermal generation is pretty universal whether it;'s coal, gas or nuclear. The difference  is what fuel you use to drive the turbine. :)
