SEAT Tarraco

One of the issues though, is that people think they can "work in all conditions" as they arrive from the factory and so in snow/floods take stupid risks and get themselves stuck needing rescue etc...

  • It would have been better if you'd merged this one with the other, it had Tarraco spelt correctly

  • Therefore a wise man buys a saloon or estate with much higher discounts to be had

  • People also buy what advertising tells them to. Never ceases to amaze me, but it must be true.

Did you see the Humvee drown in the Carolina floods?.........up to the roof!   Madness!

BIG issue.   The OEM tyres and wheels and lack of option of tyres for VW Group large SUV type models that are brought into and sold in the UK,

then leased and the driver is stuck with those crap All Season or All Weather or what VW Group are calling those tyres.

People will go 19" wheels then mump and moan at lack of choice for Winter or for going to Continental Europe where Snow Chains might need carried or proper Tyres fitted.

The probably won’t even know about the problem of not being able to fit chains on the ‘performance’ wheels due to the proximity of the strut.

Considering it's the Xcellence model in the video, I think the interior looks really dull.  The Kodiaq is much more classy IMO.  I can't see any reason why I'd choose one of these over a Kodiaq now, apart from the availability issue maybe.

Seconded. I too am disappointing with the interior considering this is the top of the range model they want to show off. However if the price is right and way below the Kodiaq's entry at £28K then I might consider it as it appears to have a bigger boot (very important to us) and similar rear leg room. According to first reports it is 4cms longer than the Kodiaq and it seems to be taller so maybe that's where the 700 ltrs in 7 seat and 760ltrs in 5 seat configuration boor space comes form. Not sure what the size of the Kodiaq boot is?

P.s. the exterior looks quite nice though

Most people are buying SUV/Softroaders as replacement hatchbacks.

So they some with alloys, low profile wheels and 4x2 drive.

Most people are idiots so they think their tall hatchback morphs into a landrover defender and them into Ari Vatanen whenever the weather turns bad. Admittedly the salesman probably promised this was the case, as well as promising that the mpg figure would be no bother and most people exceed it.

As for the car, it's inoffensive. Yet another identikit VAG SUV which looks like most other SUVs. It'll be overpriced and overweight.

I'll hope to pick up my less fashionable more suitable car for a lower price but I'll probably be paying a premium since 90% of production will have shifted to these tall fat motors  making what I want a niche market.

Take it on the chin and accept it as progress.

That sounds like a financially expensive and morally precarious perspective... !

I was looking at a lot of deals at the moment, comparing list prices and money off/contributions for SUVs and and estate cars , also comparing rear legroom, boot space etc.

For example, I test drove the Volvo's XC60 and the V90 recently . V90 favours in all aspects, more legroom, more bootspace, much higher manufacturer finance contribution etc and pound for pound you get more kit inside and it's a bigger car as it's based on the XC90 platform.

Should be a no brainer really! But still people buy SUVs

Isn’t the 90 a long wheelbase than the 60??

Yes. But it has the same starting price as the XC60.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was looking at value for money , based on the same starting list price you get a lot more car. Even leasing deals on those are cheaper than for a Kodiaq which is really weird.

I thought that was down to AT capability with the 60.

My S60 was great, a S90 would be great, but easy in and easy out again they are not.

Whats AT?

All Terrain capability.  With the right tyres that is, otherwise sort of All Season / All Weather like all the rest.

If you are going to be stuck on a Road Closed by Snow / other traffic, or where Snow Gates are Closed and it says 4x4's only and they do not mean Soft Roaders a

Volvo XC is a nice car to be comfortable and warm in with good visibility over the other cars. Unless a Range Rover in front.

As discussed in other threads, realistically most people never use them for this neither would. Plus the same engine in V90 uses less fuel, is quicker to 60 and has higher top speed for well know reasons

Most people in London do you mean, or that do not head North, West or South & across the channel.

We've survived years with front or rear wheel driven cars, I'm sure we'll be fine/:)

We all have,

& I am sure you will be just fine, and if not call a Cab, or walk or get a tube.

Yep, hence it was the wife's choice. I'd have had her in a Nissan Leaf!

When my old Superb turns her last wheel I'd happily replace it with a V90 Cross Country, with sensible sized wheels and tyres...

SEAT have always prioritised external aesthetics over the interior.

They always get first dibs into the VAG parts bin when it comes to lighting and exterior bling.

630/720  for 7/5 seat versions respectively, according to reviews I have read.

19 or is it 9 new Skoda models by the end of 2020, so something much like this must be coming. Just a bit cheaper.

My first impression is it's Volvo-esque, with a hint of Bentayga, maybe a bit of Jag too.....

Having availed myself a 10year old 125k volvo v50 as a test of non-skoda, I have to agree, it's a lovely space. The odd rattle, and slight burble ;)

Not sure I'd run to a new one, but it's certainly re-opened my eyes to non VAG.

As a bangoronmics experiment, albeit a heavy mpg one; the burble, it's a toy/low risk year or two. I found myself very bored of the present stuff, except the superb, in estate form with the 280 engine. Just not quote there to drop for a new one on that either.

I did try a XC90 on a very very steep gravel track... steeper than I'd ever think to be on. Hands off, feet off, hill descent, amazeballs. I doubt anyone would ever use it, unless they happened to be on a off road test track :D

Tyres; as we well know, make all the difference, I drove round a few freelanders in the old superb. Reckon barring drifts anything modern with full M&S would be fairly invincible and the 70/90 wheelbase means you can sleep in it easily :D Happy days!
