That hatch wiring again

Featured Replies

Have a problem with the wiring were the hatch opens on my 1998 Felicia after removing the rubber boot one wire broken and 3 damaged.

So my question is is how do I remove the wiring so I can put new wire link in the damaged parts, I am thinking if I remove the wiring how will I feed it back in the hatch again.

Has any one done this it seems a common thing on the Felicia.

Two options:

  1. Extract all pins from connector 6. Attach a nylon wire or similar to the wire harness. Pull out the harness wire from the hatch door. The nylon wire retrieved with the harness will serve as a return line after replacing broken/damaged wires.
Note: Extracting all pins from connector 6 is a fiddly job. You 'may' do it using a paper clip or similar but normally you need a proper VAG pin extractor (or make one using the information from the video below). You may need new pins for the replaced wires or use old ones if you can uncrimp them.
  2. Solder broken/damaged wires and use heat shrink tubing (preferably with adhesive inside) to protect the joint from the elements.

Thanks RichardoM for that.

I don't know about making that tool in the video, I may just cut the wires just above the 6 pin connector and use some bullet connectors then rejoin them after all there is no movement on the wires by the 6 pin connector. That 6 pin connector looks more trouble than it's worth to remove the wires.

When you say pull the harness from the hatch door one would leave the harness attached to the car not take it out complete as the harness is attached to 1 2 3 4 5 as in you illustration.

Looks very common problem - https://www.arz-tuning.de/shop/en/Electrical/Wiring-Harness-Repair-Kits/SKODA/Felicia/Wiring-Harness-Repair-Kit-Rear-Hatch-Skoda-Felicia-Favorit-Forman-01/1987-12/1993

When you have to replace 4 out of 6 wires...

If you unplug the 6pin plug remove from the clip it will move up the quarter panel ok... Your then have slack up top.... Intailgate you can unplug the wires... Where... Heated window is grab string tie it to connecter and then it will allow slack in tailgate wires... If you got high level brake light your need to do the same but it's a little tricky but you do have the oval gromits to help you... Fix wires and stick back together... I have sorted a few it's a common thing
