What Dashcam to use

Featured Replies

I had really bad DAB interference with a previous Mobius cam. I tried copper slug tape, various mounting locations and ferrite cores etc. with no joy until I used this:

It’s ridiculously expensive now (I only paid ~£25) but a coating on the inside of the case worked perfectly. I powered the Mobius with an adjacent car first to make sure it was the cam causing the interference. I have since used the cam elsewhere and switched to one of these:

No issues with interference straight out the box and no overheating due to the supercap... great picture too. It seems like limited stock in the UK, but it appears to be a common rebranded design.

I have a Toguard CE20, it sticks to the screen so is a lot neater than a sucker.

It works very well and image quality is very good so much so that I purchased another to replace an old dashcam in my other car.

Bumping this thread.

Is there any reason why front and rear cameras on the car itself cannot be used as Dashcams?

Does anyone have a product that does that?

It seems peculiar to me to install extra cameras when I have already paid for them to be installed in the original car.

You have a rear camera from factory?  The front camera is for assist features only.

Doesn't Parking Assist include a rear camera?

I dont have pask assist but i do believe park assist uses the side sensors on the front and rear bumpers.

I would imagine the resolution wouldn't be up to dashcam quality, however I have often thought that it probably won't be long until manufacturers HAVE to fit at least front dashcams by law and the footage is captured/held so that it can be used in the event of an incident.

Obviously any aftermarket dashcam could be conveniently out of action/off/out of memory in the event of an "at fault" incident ;)

This won't happen in Austria, Luxembourg and Portugal as they are illegal in these countries!

No. I have park assist but no rear camera. As Adrian says, it uses the a combination of the side and front or rear sensors.

I have one from somewhere, cos I bought it for the look down mode when hitching up a trailer.

The rear camera is option code KA2 and the parking  assist is PPA.

Does anyone using a rear mounted camera have any issues with radio interference?

I was having problems with poor FM reception and a distinct lack of traffic announcements, which turned out to be caused by the rear mounted camera. It was powered from the 12v socket in the boot, so I don’t know if it was the camera itself, or the adapter.

I have a front and rear camera fitted. Its the aukey dr02d, the rear camera is powered from the front camera. So front one like yours is hardwired exactly the same, and another cable runs off the front cam to the rear one.  I only use DAB and have driven from wet yorks down to near bournemouth with no issues at all.

I bought a new camera yesterday. It’s a Nextbase 212 - I have a 312 on the front.

It’s still powered from the socket in the boot, but the interference has gone, so I can only assume it was the cheapo camera.

Glad its all sorted!
