Mk2 VRS Springs.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm hoping to get a bit of guidance.   My Mk2 Octavia VRS needs a new coil spring it has snapped.   They are 100 each from TPS, but there are cheaper options from Euro Car Parts.

Looking on Euro there is a couple of options.

1) Sachs (cheapest) says for vehicles without sports suspension.

2) Three more expensive brands one of which is also sachs brand   (Anschler, Sachs, KYB)

My questions are, and ill start with the silliest.  1)  I put my reg in so I would assume that it is showing the parts compatible for my car,  'without sports suspension' has thrown me a little.   With it being a VRS should i assume it has sport suspension as standard or was there an upgrade option?

2) Are any of the brands OEM Manufacturers  (Anschler, Sachs, KYB),  eg am i going to get the same quality of springs from euro cheaper under a different brand.

3) is it likely the top mount bearing will need replacing at the same time?  Ive changed a few on Polos and they have a plastic mount that falls apart,  is it a similar set up on the Octavia.

Cheers

Mike

Euro car parts is a bit hit and miss with registration part finder as it tend to list parts for other models too.

I've tried kilen springs from eBay as you can reference the spring from the kilen catalogue to ensure an exact match.

If your car has done over 100k it will be worth replacing mount and bearing as it just saves on labour costs at a later date.

You can get Eibach which imho are some of the best you can buy, depending on which car you have diesel/petrol, estate/hatch you can get a set off German Ebay for around 120 quid delivered, I had the same problem front spring snapped on MOT fitted a set of Eibachs and the car feels a lot nicer to drive and is not too low only about 15mm lower.

If you need hap finding them give me the details and I'll see if I can find you a set.

You are probably best to look up the original mfrs catalogue (sachs, kyb, etc) to ascertain correct fitment.

Your VRS has a form of sports suspension but it's not the same as the optional sports suspension you could get for the Elegance spec cars.  You basically have to decide if you want it high, low or lower and take your chances.

I love my Eibach springs but they are too low for where I live (old, inner city roads with lots of speed humps and potholes).

You can get a full set of Eibach Pro springs for less than £200, let us know if you need any info or prices.

I’ve got an elegance spec how would I know if it’s got the sports suspension it feels pretty good compared to a galaxy and xsara Picasso.

1.

2. I bought Suplex equivalents for my OE sports suspension. They seem fine and ¼ the price of VAG on eBay. Just use the previously mentioned sites to find equivalent parts then search for the part numbers.

3. Yes the strut top bearings are a plastic casing encapsulating metal balls and races.

Have you considered bilstein b3 springs for standard ride height but improved drive on your standard dampers. Demon tweaks list them. I fitted rears to our car and a great improvement in comfort and still drives well.

What do the codes G07 L07mean on my 1.8 elegance

Hi,

I have a Skoda Octavia II 2011 and based in India. My current suspension springs are the rough road versions. I intend to use the vRS springs - euro spec. Please let me know the compatible part numbers - front and rear. Also, what will be the drop in ride height with these springs? I had H&R (UK spec) before but the drop in ride height was too much (about 2 inches).

Did you figure out the “sports suspension” dilemma? I need new shocks and hit same wall, being thrown by the “for vehicles with sports suspension” I’m assuming the optional sports suspension would be the same as the standard VRS suspension because it would make VAG’s then experience says VAG are needlessly difficult >.<

RS suspension is the same as the factory sports suspension option, ie. 15mm lower suspension. I suspect the factory sports shock absorbers are also 15mm shorter and have 15mm less suspension travel.

If you want aftermarket springs and shock absorbers, I suggest you fit standard suspension, ie. standard springs and standard shock absorbers. This will improve the ride quality and make it easier to find suitable aftermarket parts.

Finding well matched aftermarket sports shock absorbers isn't easy. For example, Bilstein B4 rear shock absorbers for the Octavia MK2 are only available for the standard rear springs, although Bilstein claim that they are also suitable for the 15mm shorter sports springs. I wouldn't want to fit 15mm shorter sports springs with standard shock absorbers as you are going to have an extra 15mm of sag in your suspension. Hit a pothole, and your wheel will shoot into the pothole with quarter-of-a-tonne of force due to your shock absorbers having 15mm too much travel. One moment your wheel is pushing against the road with quarter-of-a-tonne of force (supporting the weight of the car) and the next moment your wheel is being shot into the pothole (thin air) with the same quarter-of-a-tonne of force. Fitting standard shock absorbers with sports springs is not a good idea.

There are two different front shock absorber diameters for the Octavia MK2. 50mm diameter and 55mm diameter. Make sure you measure which one will fit your car.

Wow cheers for that info dude! Cleared pretty much everything up. I'm happy with the ride height and comfort of the VRS. One of the main reasons I bought it, so standard is fine for me. Thanks for the links as well. Had those bilstein shocks in my basket for a while on autodoc. Glad they are the right ones. You've been a big help!
