Not long got 1.9 TDI Elegance 05, using BP Ultimate diesel,which it seems to like, put in "normal" diesel and car seems flat, anybody else using Ultimate ?

Had Renault Laguna 2.2dci 04 (nightmare) before the Superb, and am so enjoying trouble free (so far) motoring !!....look forward to your views.

I run mine on the normal BP Diesel, done the fancy stuff make that much of a difference or are you just noticing an improvement over your previous car?

Maybe I should try some when I am feeling flush?

Feeling Flush ?, yeah it is dearer than normal diesel, but mine is company car, so am not footing bill !!. Laguna was 150 bhp and went like a train, but was at the dealers being repaired to often for my liking. Superb is not as nippy, but has more comfort and class, and is ideal for cruising on motorway.

You need to use ultimate for a few tankfuls to get the benefit....another advantage ?,,i get more nectar points !

I use it in mine. It DOES make a difference. Worth the extra. It gives better mpg too

Looks like I have been stuck in a cave then and been missing out, I will 'splash' out at the next fill up and take it from there, maybe I will notice a difference?

Mine's no company car although I do have a 'Nectar' card, LOL!!

I drive the 2.5 v6 Tdi and have been filling up with Ultimate for the last 1,500 miles, (4 fill-ups). Avg of 40mpg, however never really got up to the high 40's on motorway like normal diesel did, but never really too low round town either, so really more consistent. Was liking the very low down torque and smooth power band, and had forgotten how quiet it was.... until

Just filled up with Shell Diesel extra and sounds like a bloomin' tank in comparison, low down torque is poor, and not as smooth across whole rev range. Weird thing is it gets higher mpg on the m'way run, up to 48pmg.

Will be going back to BP, only filled up with Shell as couldn't find BP garage, price difference of about 7p a litre is actually worth it I think, given I only fill up twice a month the extra

Have been using Ultimate now for best part of 2 years and it really seems to make a difference, think its the pick up and response from the engine that i notice most.....its not till you have to fill up with "normal" diesel that you realise what the difference is !

I have used Ultimate diesel in my Superb Comfort TDi 130 for about 2 years. It does make a difference throughout the range, also improves fuel economy. On last holiday touring Scotland from Cornwall 3 adults full luggage averaged over 60+ mpg. You dont realize the difference in engine sound until you have to fill up with another brand of diesel but it is then obvious.

I can never find ultimate diesel at my local BP, and others for that matter. Ultimate unleaded yes, diesel no... :thumbdwn:

ultimate deffo makes a noticeable difference in my pd130. expensive mind: suspect get slightly better economy but not enough to make up for BP ultimate being over a quid a liter! i justify it as it's apparently better for the environment as it's cleaner!

I have filled up from empty twice with bp ultimate and to tell you the truth havent noticed the slightest bit of difference. I expect the performance gain is coming from having a lighter wallet in your pocket. I am still yet to be convinced of the benefits from my own experience.

Yeah its a lot of money but my car is quieter and smoother running on it plus i only do about 9k a year so i don't mind paying a bit extra. The mpg is marginally better but nothing to write home about.

Yeah, I'm clocking on for 16K miles a year & the extra cost soon adds up!

It's the sort of thing that can have different effects on different cars.

For example, the better more efficient burning of Ultimate would probably be more beneficial (short term) to a car drivin normally with 60k plus miles on the clock. This is because after a few fills it will have cleaned out the injectors and burnt of most of the deposits left in the engine from years of normal driving. Then, even if you switched back to supermarket diesel, your car would probably run better than before.

However, if you have a car with 20k on the clock or you regularly clean the engine out yourself (heavy foot) then you are less likely to notice a difference in the before and after driving.

I find that my 110TDI can run like it's putting out much more than 110 one day, and like a dog the next. If it is this inconsistent with normal driving, then how would i be able to tell if Ultimate is really any better than tesco??

I read a head-to-head fuel review a while back which mentioned that the extra "cleaning agents" added to some fuels could potentially cause problems as they remove anything acting as lubricants in the cylinder which could reduce the life of the engine. Their recommendation was to do 1 fill up in 5 IIRC with a premium fuel.

Saying that, I believe that was for petrol, and I have no idea which magazine it was in, but it does make you think about long-term implications.

I've had the opposite, which is a bit weird. Fill up with ultimate and feel like I've lost 10bhp, and get low 40s mpg. Use city diesel and its good. Millers additive stuff seems to improve still further

It's all good in small doses every now and again to give the engine a bit of a clean out, but i don't really think any strong additives should be used all the time.

I used Millers for 1 in every 4 or 5 tanks in my old TDI golf. It had 135k on the clock when i sold it and it was running as smooth and responsive as when i bought it with 30k miles.

Regular additive treatment helps keep the engine clean and sharp and does not have an adverse effect on the life.

Yeah....But you get better MPG with it sitting on the back of that truck !!.....hope car is up and running soon !
