Coming to this a bit late, but FWIW I can turn on the open/close chirp on my 'S' (ie base) spec Superb via Infotainment.  Oddly it only works with the key which I'd opened the car with at the time, the other is silent!

That’s because each key has its own personalisation

The reason the lock / unlock chirp option has been removed from UK cars recently is rumoured to be down to new regulations preventing unnecessary noise pollution*.

Not sure why but my neighbour feels the need to access his car several times an hour, unlocking and locking it each time.

The clunk of the central locking system, a flash of the hazards and the folding of the door mirrors is enough confirmation for most. If not then this is for you...

I can understand ones which honk the horn as that 1st article states!  But the chirp isnt that loud.

A key chirp is soooo 1990's.

I've seen lane assist on several cars but it never seems to work right. Surely when a car's system detecs that its driver hasn't got the capability to stay in a lane it should park itself up as soon as it's safe to do so and remain imobile for sufficient time for the driver to recover (8 hours or so) any repeat behavior should result in the system reporting the driver to a law enforcement agency.
