Octavia 2 2011 removing lower timing cover bolts

Featured Replies

Hi all. Removing lower timing chain cover and the top right cover bolt (No 12 in picture) is impossible to get at because of engine mounting bracket. Looks like I’m going to have to temporarily remove the engine mounting bracket to get the cover off. Obviously I don’t have the special VAG engine support tool. I can support the engine with a trolley jack/rubber pad under the offside end of the sump but WLTK 1. If the sump is strong enough or if it may bend/break and 2. if the engine is likely to want to fall/twist backwards or forwards (overstraining other mounting bolts and/or pendulum support)  and if so where and how best to support and stabilise the engine. Thanks in advance

The sump is strong enough to support the weight, but i would use a plank of wood the longer the the width of the engine so it spreads the weight better (quite a common practice when changing cambelts and having to remove engine mounts.) The engine should not topple forwards or backward as the other mounts are left in place.
