Warranty issues on second Hand VRS

Featured Replies

I am having some issues with my newly bought Octavia VRS.

its a 15 plate DSG 2L diesel with 30,000 miles. I bought 2 weeks ago this Saturday Just passed and I have already had an abundance of problems. And just need some advice on how to tackle Skoda with the warranty.

The first issue was the ‘workshop issue don’t drive in P’ after over 3 days of arguing with Skoda I finally managed to get my car in for a check ( this was 4 days after buying it) there were first trying to charge me 75 pound an hour to check! Which I kindly told them not a chance.

I have had had to wait nearly 2 weeks to get it checked (got checked today) and in that time I have had to change the key fob battery 3 times!!

After my my check today Skoda informed me I needed a new gear lever (already knew this from forums on here) they are only going to pay 55% of the cost even though in warranty, and are ‘asking’ the Garage I brought it from to pay the rest. And this will take up to 3 days to confirm. Whilst in for the check they have informed me I need new rear brake discs st at cost of 300.00 each!! The dealership I had the service done at (not where I brought it from) seem to think I’ll have to pay this cost?! Surely this can’t be right as I have owned the car 2 weeks and done 456 miles!

Has anyone else had these problems and will I be successful in getting the discs under warranty. As surely I can’t be forced to pay this, as the car should never of been sold to me with the discs in this condition (as image attached)

feel like i have been done over by the garage I bought the car from as I’m not exactly privy with care and how they work. I think they were hoping the discs wouldn’t be picked up until my service next year so they could put down to wear and tear and make me pay

Brakes are a wear and tear item and you have absolutely no chance of getting them under warranty.

If these problems have arisen within days of buying the car you really should have gone back to the garage you bought it from and insisted they dealt with it.

I did go back to the garage I bought it from, but this garage is 140 miles from me. So it has been dealt with Skoda garage close to me (9 miles) as due to the nationwide dealership scheme they can do the work e.c.t

if I don’t get my brakes sorted they are having the car back, as you can’t sell a car with advisory’s on the discs unless it’s stated to the buyer and they accept! They even kept the car a week after my deposit ‘to check it was all okay’ I wasn’t informed of the brakes in this condition otherwise I wouldn’t of acccepted the car until they were sorted!

i feel it’s unfair to be stung for 300.00 per disc 2 weeks after buying the car as the dealership would of knew about this issue! The service yesterday classed them as ‘servere corrosion!

ive lost faith in Skoda due to this and feel like the garage that sold me the car did me over as like I said I’m not too knowledgeable about cars

Did you buy the car from a Skoda dealer?  When was the car first registered and what is the mileage?

You’ll probably get a better response by posting this in the Octavia section of the forum, but you need to give the full facts and details to get the best advice.

All of that information is In my original post, and yes bought from a proper Skoda dealer.

The forum  wouldn’t let me post in the Octavia section I’ll try again

As you’ve bought the car from a franchised Skoda dealer speak to them about covering the cost of the brakes in the instance, and if you have no joy you can go to Skoda UK customer services and get them to intervene on your behalf.

A 15 plate car could be just under or just over three years old, hence the reason for asking.  Your first post didn’t make it clear that you bought it from a franchised dealer, hence the question.

I can can understand your frustration with the car, but hopefully Skoda UK will get it sorted for you and you can enjoy the car.

Thats what im currently trying to do, fortunately the dealer who has had my car in, is now backing my arguement and helping me claim from warranty as they have told me the car should never have been sold to me with the brakes in that condition. Thanks for the advice

Also the car is just over 3 years old

Edit : also the car i am enjoying a lot it drives great just a shame the service behind the sale and lieing has made the car lose its 'wow' appeal it had to me
