Does my car have a DPF fitted

Featured Replies

Shortly after I bought my car, 1.6 TDi '62' reg, in August 2013, just under 1 year old, a friend who had a garage frightened the life out of me by mentioning the dreaded 'DPF'!! Up till that point I had not heard of DPF and he told me to be careful how I used the car. Not too many short journeys and always have a decent long run from time to time. (he had already had DPF problems on a brand new Fiat mobile home). I have presumed since then that all new diesel cars have a DPF.

I have since then, assumed that my car has a DPF, but reading some posts in the forum, it seems that my vehicle might not have one. Is there a way of finding out definitively please?

So far as I can tell, I have not had a problem with DPF and now done 60,400 miles. Help please!!! I'm wanting to change the oil.

Yes it has a DPF, or did when it left the factory in 2011/12.

So has your car not been at a Skoda Main Dealers and not had the Emissions Fix,  or did you get 'their recall letter / letters' and decline.

If not done i would not get it done.

PS.

What is the issue about changing the engine oil?

Get the correct Engine Oil, VW507 spec, so 5w 30 Full Synthetic Long Life.

check the sticker codes under the mat in the boot and look for a three letter code 7GG - that means it has a DPF.

Having said that I believe ALL 1.6 TDI have a DPF.

Euro 5 & 6 TDI's or other Diesels will have because the legislation required them to.

Thanks both for your help. I have a copy of that sticker in my service manual and it doesn't have the code 7GG. I will take a picture of the sticker and post it shortly.

Ok thanks for that, but I am still none the wiser. We used proper words and sentences when I was at school. What is EU5?

Your car has a DPF,  use the engine oil required, Spec to meet is VW 504 / 507,  so that is 5w 30 Full Synthetic.

Euro 5 was and emissions standard, 2009-2015,  caught up in the VW Emissions Scandal, then from September 2015 Euro 6.

Now from September cars have to have the WLTP / RDE test & approval  and will be Euro6 d temp.

the TDI's have SCR which means they use AdBlue.

None of that matters, your car has a DPF.

Thanks very much for that Offski. I feel a lot happier now and will buy my oil with confidence.

My sister-in-law lives on Jersey and has owned a 2013 Rapid 1.6TDi from new. Has driven less than 25K miles. Greatest distance from her house in the centre of the island without driving into the sea is less than 7 miles, so all short journeys. 4 trips to Gloucestershire in the 5 years (250 miles each time).  Amazingly no trouble with DPF. I am astounded diesels are sold on Jersey.
