Tyre advice

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, looking for tyre advice, I am currently running falken Ziex 914 ecorun tyres all round on my fl Octavia cr tdi 62 plate, the front two tyres have came to the end of there life after been on the car for 19 months. I paid 70 pound each for the tryes and all in they are a good all round tyre and have no complaints about them, when I  looked on Amazon however the price of them have went up, first of all can anybody suggest any tyres that are just as good if not better then the falkens for around the £70 mark. What tyres are all you people using on the front of your Octavia's? Secondly is that a decent amount of time for my tyres to be lasting? I do around 12,000 miles per year, thanks in advance for any help

I bought mine(blackline estate) recently and it came with budget landsail tyres on it. They were brand new but I wasn't impressed, so swapped them for Michelin ps4's, which worked out around £390 fitted for all 4. Bought from blackcircles and fitted locally.

These are much better in all conditions, especially the wet.

Thanks for the advice, tbh I know the ps4s ect are excellent tyres but I'm looking at something for around the price of the falkens I've been using

I know that Michelin's etc. are more expensive but given that the tyre is the only thing in touch with the road I always spend the extra on better tyres. They often give better fuel economy and probably don't work out much more expensive, if at all, over the lifetime of the tyres.

They come over from Germany.  They ship tyres in 2's and when I brought 4 tyres last year, for reasons unknown to mankind, the 2 packages left the depot and arrived at the processing hub together, then 1 set when to DPD hub in Birmingham and the other landed in DPD in Aberdeen?  Just meant 1 Of the packages arrived a few days after the other :D

Just to add to this how long are you all getting from a set of front tyres? Like I've said these have been on 19 months and some approx 20,000 miles,

The wife's running Avon ZV5 all round on her Elegance estate. Road noise isn't too bad for a 17' tyre and wet grip is decent. The limit of grip is also very predictable.

  • 2 months later...

I have uniroyal rainsport 3 on mine 225/45/18

Great in the rain and slippery and not soft wearing

i recommend rhem and will replace when needed with same tyres

It came with rain sports on it and tbh there a good tyre but found the wear on them was too much, wore down really quickly

Think I got about 25k miles from the front set of Conti Sport Contact 5s I had on my last vRS (significantly tuned)

I got over 30k out of the Goodyears on mine but I am an old fart and drive like one :)

I've been running Avons on our cars for years without issue. Similar price to Falkens.

Ive got rain sport 3's on my summer rims and also gave them on the wife's Cooper S and found they seem to be wearing quicker than expected .... a very good tyre though.
