Fabia service by monthly direct debit

Featured Replies

I'm getting my new Fabia VRS next week and had a short chat with another owner this morning. He said he got a service deal by paying a monthly direct debit which saves money. He also said there is an insurance scheme which protects the value of the Fabia. Is there any truth in these two statements? I'm not going to ask the dealer until I can discover if this is for real!

Hi Mate

I know that you can go for the service pack.

This is where you pay monthly for the services on your car.

I do not know about the insurance though

He also said there is an insurance scheme which protects the value of the Fabia.

There's something called GAP insurance...bit surprised the dealer hasn't tried to sell you it, usually gets brought up at the same time as Supaguard/other paintwork protection sales pitches.

Basically, it insures between how much the car cost you, and how much it's worth - so if you were unlucky enough to drive it off the forecourt and had an accident which wrote the car off at the next corner, your insurance company would pay for what the car was worth as a used car albeit with low mileage, etc. This would be unlikely to be same as the purchase price, so you wouldn't have enough to cover the finance/a new car. Therefore, GAP insurance would pay for the difference.

I believe it only covers you for the first year of ownership though, so if you had a write-off after 11 months you could get yourself a new car on the claim... :D

Might be worth checking with your insurance company what they'd cover though, a few do "like for like" insurance replacements nowadays anyway.

It's GAP insurance as Rob says but afaik you can have upto 5 years cover - if your willing to pay for it. Many insurance companies will replace a new car with another new one should it be written off in the first year as part of the policy.

There are - or were when I took it out - 2 types of GAP insurance. GAP (Shortfall Protection) covers the difference between the amount paid by your insurance company in the event of a writeoff and the balance of the outstanding SkodaAuto Finance Agreement, up to a maximum of

i had gap insurance on one of my cars but it only covers the cost of the car not the "on the road" price or any extra's i think.

I wanted to know what the point of Gap is when as Jimmy said your insurance would do it, any ideas?

GAP Insurance as explained above. I was quoted a premium of

The dealer did mention GAP insurance at the same time as Superguard which I turned down after checking on the net. I'll ask morethan, my current insurers, about what they will do as suggested.

What about the service pack? Is this worth investigating this scheme with my dealer?

I don't think the service pack saves you that much from what i've heard. Perhaps it's better if your mileage is going to be really high???

I guess you just need to have a look at the figures involved and see what will work out cheaper for you!

it might not save you much but what it does do is save you finding £350 all of a sudden. i know i'd rather pay £10 a month or what ever and never have to worry about finding the money come service time

The service pack will save you next to nothing at the dealers.

I was quoted

it might not save you much but what it does do is save you finding

because everyone is perfect at savinf money for a rainy day and being a good little boy and not touching it

and if you re-read my quote you'll see that i said that I would rather pay per month and not have to find the money in one go, i'm crap with money.

you may not be capable of saving money, but a lot of people are!!!

You said "it saves you finding

would rather pay per month and not have to find the money in one go, i'm crap with money.

yeah i agree with that my last service on my old fabia was going to be

i'm crap with money.

I dissagree, you spend money very well and seem to do it with great ease.

i'm now in a position where i have enough spare cash at the end of each month for something like this easily but i'm still rubbish with money in terms of saving and management. as ross says i'm very very good at spending money :P
