Vrs power upgrade

Featured Replies

So I have a vrs and it’s standard power wise but my aim is to get it to around 250bhp I was just wondering if someone could help me in what direction to take this what turbo to buy Intercoolers and harpipe also is there a place where I can get this all done the mapping 4 bar map sensor, turbo fitting and anything else that’s needed.

Hi Les7 and welcome.

The site search hasn't been working brilliantly for me recently, but google finds stuff very efficiently. try typing [site:briskoda.net fabia vrs power upgrade] without the square brackets into the search box of google and I think you may be spoilt for choice with relevant results.

220 BHP is the sweet spot, any more and you'll need a lot more money and a lot more mods and you'll start running into reliability issues.

How deep is your wallet? Chasing figures will lead you into having to uprate other items, clutch and flywheel for one which aren't on your list. I'm assuming you've uprated your brakes already, if not those will need to be in order to stop you. 312mm conversion is a good step.

About 2000 is my budget

Then stick with 220 BHP, your budget is too small for 250.

How isn’t the only difference in making it from 220 to 250 different turbo ??

You'll need new clutch, flywheel, exhaust system, intake and FMIC as well as the turbo, mapping and big brakes, I'd want new suspension as well with that much poke. Tot that little lot up and it's WAY over £2k.

Got exhaust system on and brand new ap coilovers just fitted clutch will be done before anything else and not included in the 2k budget

apparently 250 is pushing standard injectors a bit but i know some people run standards at 250

i reckon you should be able to do it for roughly that sort of money if you do labour yourself/cheap and especially if you get some second hand parts

The fabia, ibiza and PD groups on facebook constanly have parts for sale. Obviously can be risky buying used turbos etc but there will be some deals to be had

No personal experience with anything more than a remap and handling mods but i plan to get somewhere around 230 with mine.

LSD sounds like a really good idea to get the power down and in corners. that's another 500-1000

I’d be more than happy to settle on 230 also and I’m not wanting used parts think if I’m going to do it I may aswell do it properly get everything new.

A hybrid pd150 turbo will push to 220-230bhp. At that power your maxing out standard injectors anyway. The dark side fmic and hard pipe kit Is good but doesn't fit if you have factory xenon's.

A standard clutch is rated to 300ftlb and going to the above power will give you anywhere from 330-380ftlb so will slip after time.

The Sachs SRE is popular. Either solid or dmf option most run the organic clutch plate mine had the sintered paddle clutch and I personally loved it. Either option will take abuse all day long. Another option is darksides own kit.

Standard air filter is good for 230bhp so don't bother wasting money on it.

Upgrade the brakes to at least the 312mm setup with decent pads.

Decent tyres too but that should be obvious.

And personally a LSD. I had the wavetrac in mine and where a friend's Fabia would understeer mine would simply pull you round the corner. Doesn't do much at all for straight line performance off the line.

And a RARB is one of the best handling mods you can do. If you buy one with adjustable settings stick it on the stiffest setting and leave it. Helps the rear end move around a bit more (nothing dangerous at all) and gets the front end turn in better

I wouldnt risk any old turbo either.
I got burnt that way with a PD130 I hoped to use when my original failed ( it eventuall did) but was turned out so badly coked up wouldn't split ended up breaking ( well company that tried did) I hoped to learn to clean turbo myself, lesson learnt
( although still have the manifold so could be rebuild I guess and I did learn how the VNT works and managed to clean it and just needs the centre section CHRA to be a good turbo).

Worked out well though I got lucky break
brand mellet pd I think 150 equivalent,  new intercooler and pipes for under £600 thanks to kind help from someone in the know so to speak.
I was told to play safe and aim around 185hp for that setup despite being a 150, apparently more to do with the overspeed of the turbo though rather than HP, its not hybird. I think I'd be happy with that
With the state of my clutch at 140k and not sure when I should change seems sensible not to go silly if I do map,

I have 300hp octavia now anyway. Whatever the Fabia does won't touch the sides :D

I think this talk of diffs for a car worth so little is bonkers, but its your car.
For a car now decade old and worth, bugger all, anything you spending will only be worth sometihng in terms of breaking value or if you change them back before selling but you might be enthuisiastic about the car fair enough if so.
I'd go for the wise upgrades or instead perhaps look at an alternative car that was better speced by default.

There as so many Fabias now with all this stuff already done to them being sold for peanuts too.

LSD fully fitted would be more like £2k too, boom there goes the budget

Hey,

What you'll need is a hybrid turbo id recommended skilla turbos they do the 1752 which is good for 240bhp or 1856 good for 280....

You can get the seat sport intercooler from ebay with hard pipe kit which will cost you around 350 all in.

You'll need a egr delete

Some pd150 headbolts

And a clutch unless you get the torque capped... I'd say Sachs sre from awesome gti or darkside or a valeo smf kit.

Just remember 250 is usually the limit for the injectors :)

For Mapping youv got...

Skilla turbo

I’m running 216 / 325 and paid about £1800 for a 5k mile billet hybrid turbo, used exhaust, fitting both and mapping in. so yes, you can hit ~220 for about £2k.

But......

To get the best out of it, I must have spent close to that again in supporting mods; £50 head bolts, £40 map-sensor, £750 for coilovers, £550 FMIC, £300 to upgrade the front and rear brakes, £250 for suspension bushes ...... add another £1000 for a clutch and uprated DMF yet to be purchased. (I also deleted the EGR and added a catch-can, but these aren’t  necessary)

PLUS, as mentioned above, you’ll likely need uprated injectors if you want that 250 as maxing out the standards will cause issues from what I’ve read on here over the years.

Ummm, Just get a BMW 330D?
