It runs on petrol! Must be a fuel line running from the main tank. You can hear it burning away like a gas stove...

Maybe its too late (or nice to have both) but my dealer told me the heated windscreen wasn't really necessary when you have the heater.

It is using battery only to power ventilation for blowing warm air into salon. It takes 20min. if temperature is minus 5-10; if temperature is minus 15 - you will need ~30 minutes. In any case - when you are using heater it heats coolant in system - when you start engine, it and salon quicker reaches normal temperature level :). I very like this feature in winter, this week we have -5 ... -8  in morning, so I am using it every morning :)

Not sure how fuel consumption is affected but one positive side-effect I can think of this is that the car reaches operating temp much quicker. No more the problem of coming across that silly BMW/Audi that thinks it's fast while you are still seeing your oil temp showing: " ---"   :D

I live very close to a busy round-about where traffic from a big city passes through to go to businesses in my area, it's a real struggle till the oil temp hits 80...

Aha! A proper "burner" then :D

When you guys say via Skoda Connect, does the car need to be online all the time via a separate sim card in order to accept the order at any point or is it something you can do once when you connect to the car (via the app), like program a schedule,  and then let it stay off,  a normal non-smart  car?

I think since MY18 they are all 'online' for a few things like the SOS feature and skoda connect app stuff (except sending locations to the GPS which is weird). But it doesn't seem to connect to the internet unless you have your own sim card. Since you ordered the columbus system I think it has a built sim slot. My car has Amundsen so it came with a USB stick that I can put a sim into and plug in in. So far I just pair it with my phone when I need to connect to the net. But I'm using CarPlay more and more rather than than the built in GPS.

You can already download the http://www.skoda-auto.com/world/connect-app and play with the demo mode while you wait!

They also have this one http://www.skoda-auto.com/world/oneapp but for me it kept crashing CarPlay and disconnecting my phone so I deleted it...

Also this one http://www.skoda-auto.com/world/myskoda-app but I haven't really used that one.

In order to be able turn on heater via app no additional sim card needed (as ewlmr mentioned "I think since MY18 they are all 'online' for a few things like the SOS feature" - so SOS feature "embeds" one SIM card for all cars with this feature). But as I know you must have subcription to skoda care services - first year is included with new car. Costs about 30 euros per year. Also, with MY19 cars app has another useful feature - you will be able to lock/unlock your car via app :). So, if you will be not sure, if you locked car - you can check it via app and lock if needed even 1000Km away from car :)

So the car has its own independent SIM that allows it to be always online for specific features? |

Wow, too much autonomy there maybe. I like to use some of the "smart" features sure, but I also like to be in control of its connectivity and be able to shut everything off If I choose to, for whatever reason. Up to now (meaning my current car), if you didn't have a sim on the car and you werent connected via your phone, then no connection.

Hmm...

You can turn-off in car configuration all this online stuff, if you want. Except SOS functionality - it mus be according EU regulation in cars from April 2018.

The ability to check the locks is handy, as is getting an overall view of the car health. Also, it would be great if they added the ability to fire up the internal air circulation.

The webasto cabin heater is a great job and its a shame we don't get it in the UK. That appears to be the fancy cars and the proper cold countries only.

Thanks for the infos guys. I think I'll be able to live with all that to be honest, I am just a bit particular with each of my devices (pc, smartphone, car from now on) and what they are allowed to do on the internet.

Continuing with "future owner awaiting delivery" questions (I assume this will be going on till I get the car and even further...):

I have a set of 19" Pretorias that I plan on making the Superb's summer set, with 235/35/19 Michelin PS4S that I put on only last spring and they are an incredible (and equally expensive) tire that I'd hate to miss. The Superb tire size is 235/40/19 so 11.5mm shorter profile. Could I get away with using that combo on the Superb?

What I can think of mainly is that the speedo will be off but I can account for that. The ride height and arch gap will be lower by 11mm which does not sound bad in principle (the standard car could use a little bit of drop, talking 10-15mm max, nothing silly) but I am not sure if the arch diameter will look too big over the slightly smaller circumference of the new tire.

Comfort wise I can't imagine the ride will be too bad as the same tires where on a firmer car before (although around 150+ kg less) and in fact, the soft sidewall of the PS4S makes it a very comfortable tire for daily use, clearly better than the 225/40/18 Potenza S001 the GTI came on.

So any ideas on that plan? Worst case I would sell the Michelins and put on the Pirellis Superbs usually come with but I really really liked that tire. And they've only been used for half a season really.

If you put that through a tyre size calculator there is a 24mm difference and would not be recommended as the difference is too great.

I was referring to the profile's height which is 11.5mm shorter, obviously the overall circumference is twice that (23mm).

It sounds a lot but then, considering a Superb can officially accept a 215/55 (118.25mm high) and a 235/40 (94mm high)  tire that are apart 48mm (in total) I was assuming it could still be ok. Granted these may be the absolute min max limits, I am thinking of it as a percentage difference from the official value.

You can't take the tyre's dimensions without the wheel's dimensions.

The 215/55 is fitted to a 17" wheel and the 235/40 is on a 19" wheel.

The overall difference then is 0.45% and the diameter difference is 3 mm

Absolutely, but my point was regarding the "tire dampening" aspect. I believe this is provided exclusively by the tire (sidewall size and properties). A 215/55/17 may be almost identical to a 235/40/19 in diameter but the differences between the two in ride comfort, responsiveness and feedback will be significant.

Clearly, a 235/35 is a smaller wheel with a shorter sidewall, it is not a size I would choose if buying new tires for a Superb of-course. Just wondering what will be the negative effects of this on the car and it is purely academical for the time being. I could always sell both tire sets (the slightly used PS4S and the brand new Pirellis) and just buy a new 235/40 PS4S if I feel so desperate.
