Sportline 280 - help building my spec

But, keep in mind: to use Google Maps or Waze with Admunsen I need to connect  phone by USB, Android Auto or Mirror Link  is not working with Admunsen via Bluetooh. I am not sure about Columbus, but you need to check - maybe it is possible to connect phone in order launch Adroid Auto (or Apple Car) via Bluetooh o WiFi? So, in combination with PhoneBox option (support for wireless charging) Columbus can be very nice solution: you can put you phone into Phone Box and it will be charged also you will be able to launch Android Auto apps without USB cable. This is only argument for Columbus in my opinion :)

you cannot use Android Auto without the USB cable, not just with Skoda - with every car brand.

unless ur one of those rare 12 models or so in the Merc and BMW range that have headunits that support wireless android auto and carplay.

Ok, it's decision time. My configuration costs the equivalent of 34K GBP (in swedish krona) when the exact same spec built in a UK configurator would cost 42K GBP (without any possible discounts of-course). It's a cracking deal but I only got until tomorrow afternoon to make up my mind as dealer has told me that orders from 30/11 onwards are going up by 900eur due to the new prices. Campaign will continue though.

Despite the great price I still am not sure if ordering so close to the FL Superb is a good move, it's completely against my principles to order just before a new model is about to launch and similar before FL's. However, I just can't turn away from this discounted price (anything else I've built as an alternative is either (much) smaller, less powerful or FWD only or usually, a combination of all those. Also, the way I see it the MY19 cars have already got some significant upgrades like DSG7 and digital dash so I assume the FL changes will only be cosmetic.

Decisions, decisions...

One unclear point still, that I would love if someone could answer but I doubt since very few MY19 cars have arrived is whether you need Columbus to display Navigation in both the digital dash and the head unit simultaneously as in the Golf Mk7.5. If Amundsen is confirmed to do the trick then I could easily save another 700eur which means I can take more time (and swallow the 900eur price increase).

Any suggestion or opinion welcome, just make sure you post it before midday tomorrow :tongueout:

by the time u see FL Superbs on the road, it will b the year 2020 - so don't let that deter ur decision to buy one now.

to get navigation displayed in the digital dash, u need a Columbus with Canton amplifier as it needs optical out.

So even with the Amundsen & Canton you can't have navigation displayed on the dash at all? Or just not simultaneously with the head unit? Because on the Golf I believe even with the smaller Discover Media unit, it was either dash or head unit but just not both at the same time.

Also, is the Columbus MIB3? And the Amundsen too? Have those units received in upgrade in current MY19 models or they've been the same since the MK3 launch?

I don't know why I struggle so much to pull the trigger. I love the car, I love the offer, it will be perfect for everyone in the family (currently 3 members but who knows what happens), but I guess not being in an urgent need to change  is what makes me hesitate. My Clubsport is just 2 years old and I'm still loving it (ok not so much lately that I switched to crap winter tires and can spin up to 4th gear if I want to put all the 370hp  to good use...)  So although it's clear the Superb will be a better all-rounder (more space, more useability, less care headaches, tune-able as much as my pockets can afford) it's harder to convince myself when the need of extra space hasn't struck me yet.  It's only this question of whether I am missing a great opportunity to jump to a bigger, more "useful", more luxurious car for a killer price, while I can still make ok money from selling mine...

This could well end in a coin-flip I guess.

To be fair though he is not going to wait that much! :tongueout: today the dead-line for orders with current prices ends so if I miss it, I am buying an extra 6 months  or so. By April, similar spec cars as the one I had in mind will be available as new or slightly used and info about the FL will be out so I will start again the search.

from wat i've read, from those who have retrofitted digital displays, if you want the navigation showing in the digital dash - you need the Columbus combined with the Canton.

i don't know how the Canton plays a role.

So, if you have Amunsden - you won't get navigation on the digital dash.

if you have Amunsden plus Canton - i don't know.

in the VW world, Discover Pro = Columbus.  Discover Media = Amunsden.

as far as i know, there is no MIB3, yet.
the ones with physical buttons are MIB2.  introduced 2014.

the ones without physical buttons are MIB2.5  introduced 2017.

MIB2.5 was introduced in the Superb from MY18.

it was also introduced in the FL mk3 Octavia.

Tricky - Sounds like it might be better wait until you are 100% sure instead of rushing in to save €900?

Can't remember if you have you driven one yet? I would want to be pretty sure you were happy with the way it drives if you still love your Golf and don't desperately need the extra space... We had a Golf Sportcombi GT 140 so the Superb was a huge step up in most areas but ride/handling wise its about the same if not slightly worse... Not sure if its the extra wheelbase or if its just VAG making sure it's not too good!

The 4x4 is great in winter but if you order it now will you even get it before spring?

On the other hand its 50/50 whether the FL will be minor improvement or a complete disaster. Remember what they did to the Octavia :) so maybe these MY19's will be peak Superb III!

No not driven one and no Sportline available around, and you're also too far I think :tongueout: Honestly, the driving does not worry me that much, read lots of reviews, was following the EVO fleet car experiences in the EVO magazine for few months, I know it's not a Clubsport and I wouldn't expect it to be so but I think it would match my current driving needs. Worse case, it's an MQB car, anti-roll bars, springs or at most dampers are pretty straightforward fixes so it doesn't scare me too much.

It's true that 900eur over almost 40K is not that big a deal (it is the cost of the JB4 and an intake though :D)  but if i change my mind after one month I'll just feel stupid.

My experience with the CS has taught me that with circa 370bhp (as it will be the case with the Superb right away), AWD will show its usefulness the whole year below 80-100km/h (which is most of the time) or on wet roads, or exiting tight corners, or... or...

I loved the comment about "peak Superb"

A friend of mine even put my Clubsport Pretoria wheels on it in order to convince me and I can't say that I don't like that, not at all in fact:

Superb w Prets.jpg

What about Jönköping? If it has DCC then its the same setup:

https://www.bytbil.com/jonkopings-lan/personbil-superb-lk-tsi-280-4x4-fullutrustad-1663-12570133

Maybe not possible before this afternoon though :) otherwise I will be down in Karlskrona around mid January...

Looks nice with those wheels! Trying to decide if I should try to find another 4 Vega's or something different for my winter tires...

Here is a nice instagram account to check out https://www.instagram.com/superbsportline/ maybe its enough to convince you :)

Have you decided on the colour?

Nice!

Just thought of another reason NOT to wait for the FL... Surely there is no guarantee they will even keep the 280/272 when the FL arrives?
Seems like they are talking more and more about moving to hybrids for the next generation of vRS cars so maybe they will want the new Superb hybrid to be the flagship model?

Mind you, I haven't ordered anything yet!

I doubt the hybrid is going to be the flagship (although I wouldn't mind some free miles honestly). The hybrid is said to be based upon the Passat GTE powertrain. 1.4/1.5 TSI engine + electric motor of around 160ps in total, not an option that I would bother with and not targeted towards performance buyers.

Now if they offered a 2.0 TSI with an electric engine of 300+  combined I would not resist for sure. But that would not happen for anything less than 47-50K at this point so again indifferent.

I would suggest that those sort of numbers are achievable in the UK market via online brokers.  It sounds like your dealer is trying to hit month-end targets...maybe you can squeeze it a bit lower.  However if you are happy with the price/spec and don't feel like you need to drive it then crack-on, i'm sure you will not regret it.

In my opinion the the most important factor is that you will be happy with the general drive of the car, given that is its primary function, and you spec the options that you really need to suit your lifestyle.  A digital dash is likely a novelty that will wear off fairly quickly IMO, so should not make or break your decision.  Prioritise the core  things you want.  For me that was handling, comfort and power.  For example, I would have liked  heated rear seats but my passengers will have to slum it whilst I lord it up in the front.  Make sure you are happy with the colour though!

As far as the Headunit/Virtual Cockpit goes - surely your dealer can answer this?  The UK configurator allows you to add it on the Sportline Trim level which has Amundesen.  I am pretty sure you do not need Canton as this is just an audio amp and speaker upgrade, albeit I would recommend it if you enjoy your music.

Cheers. UK market is always cheaper so getting the same deal here is already a big thing. Price wise I'm convinced it just can't get better, not sure if he's lying about the price change tomorrow though, wouldn't that be stupid as if it didn't happen he would look like ar5e? I'm only guessing.

The must have items for me were: Digital dash and the new DSG7. I could live with an analog dash in general but i think it will hide the car's age for longer (don't think they are going anywhere in the future) and honestly, no offense meant to anyone but the design of the stock analog dials on this car is horrid. Seems like they are coming from an Mk2 Octavia 10 years ago or so, and weirdly enough Sportline is no different. So they were a must too.

Canton is standard in the current campaign, and I have good reason to believe you need Columbus for dash Navi as the same happens in the VW cars. Not a deal breaker though, but it's included in a teck packet of good value so it will be included.

Sportline 280 DSG7 AWD Quartz grey metallic

19" Supernova (grey)
Columbus, Canton, Digital dash, Electric towbar, DCC, "acoustic" windows, KESSY, Bi-xenons, light assist, all the lane/traffic bits, electric tail-gate with virtual pedal
front and rear parking sensors with rear camera, comfort phonebox with wireless charging and antenna, rear electrical and USB rear outlets, boot net package
heated windshield, heated steering wheel with DSG paddles, heated & electrical seats, heated rear seats, engine and cabin pre-heating with remote (no idea what's that exactly, was standard on Swedish sportline)
all the small winter thingies (nozzles etc.)
Final price: £33500  (equivalent)

And more that I must be forgetting, would be easier to just write the 3-4 things it doesn't have really. I didn't spec even half of those as they were included in the campaign, too good to pass really...

Half of the fun is being again an active Briskoda member I guess :tongueout:

Nice! Awesome spec!

PS - The "engine and cabin pre-heating with remote" does this to frosty windows via the push of a button or via the skoda connect app so not too bad to have...

I see. Does it work from as far as the standard remote then or it can be via internet as well?

I really don't think I could get more crazy with the equipment, the full list is around two pages long, lol. Should be good in the long term I think, allowing you not to be jealous of all the small niceties that newer cars have (as much as possible). Lots of that stuff I will get in a car for the first time so should keep me entertained for a while...

PS. Sorry I just read you said Skoda connect app, that's fine. So is it a separate heater that they install or?  Is it Skoda equipement or is it something that is done at the dealership?

You should get one extra remote (a bit smaller than the key fob) with an on and an off button. This works from about 100m away depending on buildings etc.

It works most of the time via the app but the app is still a bit unreliable. In theory you can set it to warm the car everyday at a certain time but that hasn't worked for me yet since it seems like you can only do that via the app/website and it keeps saying that the function is 'temporarily unavailable'.

The heater itself is connected to the fuel tank and sound like a camp stove/blowtorch! More info here:

https://www.webasto.com/se/marknaderochprodukter/bil/eftermonterade-parkeringsvaermare/

Pretty sure they are installed at the factory.

Last winter Skoda connect app was 99% cases working for turning-on  Auxiliary heater on my car. But this autumn I at 50% cases receive "error message" and I should to try several times to turn it on by mobile app. I guess Skoda has some problems on their server side and I hope they will solve it because winter is coming :) . But anyway it is very convenient to turn on pre-heater during breakfast at home 20 minutes before leaving home. Actually, at home I also using this special remote - it usally works ~100 meters from my home - if car is in direct vision and I am standing near window - distance can be longer.

So does it get its own battery or? I mean I can't imagine it runs from the standard battery without issues.  Also, how long do you need to have it working to bring the car to a nice temp, say at least 10 degrees?

It runs on petrol! Must be a fuel line running from the main tank. You can hear it burning away like a gas stove...

Maybe its too late (or nice to have both) but my dealer told me the heated windscreen wasn't really necessary when you have the heater.

Aha! A proper "burner" then :D

When you guys say via Skoda Connect, does the car need to be online all the time via a separate sim card in order to accept the order at any point or is it something you can do once when you connect to the car (via the app), like program a schedule,  and then let it stay off,  like a normal non-smart  car?
