Needle Sweep

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I fancy having needle sweep enabled on my car, it's a 2.0 tdi Octavia estate 2015 elegance model …  is it possible on this car, and is there anywhere in the merseyside area able to do this ?

regards

RayStan.

Believe me, it's something that wears thin after a while, but you're probably better off getting OBDEleven, especially since it's going on offer over the next couple of weeks.

Controller 17 - Instruments

07 - Coding

Byte 1

Enable Bit 0 - Gauge Test/Needle Sweep (Staging) active

If you’re ever in North Wales for the day, I can add it along with anything else you want coding :)

Can I just confirm that this was never standard on any Mk3 Octy?

My old Mk2.5 vRS had the needle sweep. Before I picked up my current car I made a list of all the mods I would do and I thought I'd add that - I was used to seeing it etc.

However, I notice mine is already doing a needle sweep. Does this mean previous owner was an OBDEleven/VCDS owner? Or is it activated on the vRS at the factory?

Cheers.

No worries, just let me know via PM some dates for availability and we can see what’s what. As you have an Elegance there might be more stuff we can look at adding. I’ve done quite a few of these cars now so it won’t take long :)

Hi Sasha

Do you have OBDEleven or VAG-Com software? There's a few things I'd like tweaking on my Karoq, so would appreciate a PM if you are ever in Ruthin area or I can travel to meet you.

Thanks!

Yep OBDEleven with PRO pack, I only use long coding, no apps. I commute from Bangor to Wrexham most days, or can meet in Mochdre at my MIL’s house. Drop me a PM with a list of adaptations you’d like and we’ll take it from there :)

I've notice this doesn't always work on mine. On some occasions it just starts as normal.

Mines a non VRS though so I enabled it as per the above VCDS post above.

If you turn the ignition on and start too quickly, it can do this.

I never had it on my old Mk5 golf gti but always wanted it, now I have it I’m like “meh”

I have been away from the UK for a long time, could somebody please translate "I'm like meh" ?

meh
//
informal
exclamation
exclamation: meh
  1. 1.
expressing a lack of interest or enthusiasm.
"meh, I'm not impressed so far"
adjective
adjective: meh
  1. 1.
    uninspiring; unexceptional.
"a lot of his movies are … meh"
    • unenthusiastic; apathetic.

Think it's an expression favoured by the young 'uns ...

Hope this clears this up for you !!!

Sums up most young folk these days, MEH (waits for apathetic responses).

So it means that someone is not impressed, where does the "I'm like" come into it?

Does it mean that they are not "not impressed" but something similar? If so then why not say what it is you are?

Confusing when someone says something in the present tense that suggests that they actually mean something else and to then realise that they are in fact talking about a past event

Although I think in this case the poster is talking about the present time.

When they like something they tend to use the phrase "that's sick". Go figure.

I think 99% of the forum knows what it means but in future I’ll be sure to use language that caters for all age groups

I’m suprised you older folk know how to use emojis to be honest ;)

It's a bit of an Americanism; bad/lazy English. When a phrase like that is spoken you get all the emphasis you need from their gestures and cadence, but written down it's easy to misunderstand if you've never witnessed it being spoken.

The Carista device can do this I believe, it is not as good as the OBDII, but I understand long coding is also coming to it soon. It is on offer at the moment £9.99 on Amazon. It can do a few other things too, just not as many as the OBDII and it doesnt show exactly what it is changing.

It seems to work most of the time. I am not sure if KESSY sometimes prevents it from kicking in due to the quick starting process.

If I just switch the ignition on it seems to work every time.

Not working every time probably isn't KESSY related as I don't have KESSY and needle sweep works probably 80% of the times that I turn the ignition on at best.

Fair. Perhaps its an "undocumented feature" :)

I noticed that needle sweep on start up on my new Superb was a seemingly random event. Somebody in that forum said nonsense, it only happens after the key is removed and drivers door has been opened/closed/locked/unlocked.

But that's not true, its definitely a random event for me, a sneaking suspicion its linked to (low) battery voltage maybe.

Its a novelty though that makes little difference to me.
