Windscreen washer fluid

Featured Replies

Am I too simple too think I can just get any of the standard blue screenwash from a supermarket and fill it up?

There's a statement in the manual saying if you have headlight washers which I just noticed I do then you should use something that doesn't affect the polycarbonate coating. Just one of their get out of jail free cards?

I usually buy Skoda Screen wash, 1 ltr bottle and dilute it into 5 ltrs.  If says Shoka on the bottle it should be ok for lights and the windscreen Fan Jets.

Is that to play safe Auric or have you seen others causing problems?

I use mainly Lidl’s or ECP’s; the ECP stuff is the Triple QX brand.

Not kept a car longer than 3 years to know if it has any effect on the light lenses, beyond that time period.

No, No problems with other screen wash. Skoda's S W is cheap as chips.

Screen wash prices seem to take a hike at this time of year so Skoda's is quite competitive.

I've been using Halfords -20 Concentrated Screen Wash for donkey's years and never had any problems with either headlamp lenses or 'fan' washer jets. I normally dilute it 50/50 and use all year round, and even in the coldest UK winters it hasn't frozen on the screen.

Just googling brought back lots of results with people recommending Lidl's.  Do they still sell them?

Thanks for all your useful responses.  I have to make a trip to the dealership tomorrow anyway to pick up my missing tablet holder so i'll get some of theirs.  If it works by diluting a 1ltr bottle up to 5 litres then it's not expensive.  The dealer is half an hour's drive away so i'll just go to halfords on other occasions.

To eliminate any risk of mixing 2 different brands, is there a way to completely drain the old?  I can just keep squirting but thought that if it's like a straw sucking the fluid out, there will always be an amount that it can't get out.

I would think having to return to the Dealer to pick up a missing Item must entitle you to a free bottle of screen wash, or two

I like the reasoning. However after talking to them about the tablet holder for a few weeks I'm beginning to understand the way they operate. Put the blame on Skoda UK, go through the warranty process to get the missing holder (or cost reimbursed to them since they already had some in stock ages ago). Then finally tell me I can have it. They didn't answer me when I asked if they could just give me one and replenish it when Skoda UK settles it with them.

I reported some snags at the same time - one of them the creaky door handle. Lady said first time she's seen such a thing and said for that one they may have to report it to Skoda UK. Although I don't think they can do much on that particular snag, it still felt as though their part is just to tell Skoda UK. Is a dealer accountable for quality issues?
