linking PC's

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone knows what is the easiest way of connecting 2 pc's together to send a couple of files across that are too big to fit on a CDR?

Can you just use a USB cable or will this blow em up?

Cant just use a usb cable if it is only for a couple of files just use a usb memory stick or if you permanant, maybe a wireless net or normal wired network

Cross over cable should do the trick.

If both are on the same network, you could use the free program Look@files.

However, if not, why not use dvdrw?

Because the computer with the files on it doesn't have a DVDrw, just a CDrw and the files are to big to fit on one of those! they are also to big to fit on any of my memory cards :(

I'm just after the cheapest way of getting them across, I dont really need a wireless network yet, but I might end up going down that route.

cheers for the info guys.

Cant you copy the files over individually on cd/cdrw?

look at winrar - google will find it for you.

similar to win zip, but you can fragment the archive to any size (650mb for a cdr) and then copy them in bits and reassemble on the 2nd machine

ps winrar - www.rarlab.com - is shareware

if one file is too big to fit a CDR, and you rarely need to do this transfer. I would suggest you use Cutter 4.5 to split the file, then put splitted files in 2/3 CDR.

is free software iirc:

network is long term solution tho.

Tugzip is freeware, and does .ace,.rar and .zip files amongst others.

Pull the HD from one machine and plug it into the other - that's another way
