Fabia Brake Discs and Pads

Featured Replies

Need to get my brake discs and pads done in the near future and noticed Euro Car Parts have a 50% off for today only. Only problem is that their system offers me several versions of discs and pads and not certain which I should be going for so interested if anyone in the know could please advise. If it is only brand then I will make a call but assume Bosch (others are Eicher, Pagid, Brembo and ATE) would be the ones to go for? A commuter car so just want to be safe and sound, no high performance requirements etc.

As suggested by some kind soul on the site, I have now (hopefully)  put an image of ID plate from boot in my profile so all vehicle details available but I can confirm that car is SKODA  FABIA BOHEMIA TDI  1896cc DIESEL, 5 Door ESTATE. Also has 6Y in VIN so Mk 1.

Thanks in advance if anyone able to help.

The difference in front brake discs are the diameters, there are 3 to choose from. Your 1.9TDI will have 256mm ones (288mm are for the vRS, and smaller ones are for low powered petrol cars). As for pads, I think the only difference is one has a wear inductor and the other doesn't.  If you don't know if your car has them, you can buy the ones that have, then cut the wire off if not need. Rear discs and pads are easy as they are the same throughout the range.

As for brands, it doesn't matter too much which ones from ECP, but personally I'd stick to Pagid, Brembo or Textar as they are brands I trust. I believe Padig discs have a special coating to prevent corrosion build up on non friction surfaces.

Confirming 256 and I'd buy Brembo discs and pads for the front and the cheapest for the rear.

Cheers Jim, appreciated

Cheers both.

Rears are coming up as 232mm on the site - sounds about right?

I don't think any MK1 Fabias had front pad wear indicators fitted.

I have Pagid discs and pads on mine and they have been great. As Jim H says, they have an anti-corrosion coating on the non friction areas.

All the rears are the same size on all models, so yes.

Thanks all.

£91.97 for all 4 corners, all Pagid discs and pads. Not bad that considering I can pick them up a few hundred metres from work and also similarly return f any issues.

I understood that Fabias that were set as on variable servicing had them as it could be up to 2 years between services, but I could be wrong. Both of our mk1 Fabias (PD100 and my vRS) are on fixed 12month/10kmile services so don't have wires. The EBC pads I buy come with wires, so I always cut them off.

Anyway, probably too late as he's ordered the parts.

I'm pretty sure Ross/Tech1e has said before that no UK market Mk1 Fabias came from the factory on variable service regime, but other markets certainly had that option. The (ETKA) parts catalogue shows the necessary parts such as brake wear indicators, and oil level/temp sensor.

Hope the fitting operations go smoothly for you @Murielson.

Personal experience (front discs+pads, Std executions):

-Bosch (previously)> all ok, except very dirty wheels all the time.

-Delphi (now) > wheels always clean, no squeek/smell, suspicious little wear- and after few months wobbling started in end of pressing pedal.

My father's experience with Ferodo on Hyundai i30- all ok. Friends' experience with TRW and Brembo on different cars- all ok.

Apologies for not updating previously but all went well with brake component changes in early Jan. As normal covered in muck, tools needed that I hadn't thought of etc and in and out of the garage regularly but job done.

Invested in a caliper piton compression tool several years ago and came into its own as lot of wear on what I was changing and therefore a lot of winding in required to get new, thicker pads to fit. Nice shiney discs and pads throughout and should last for quite a while.

Thanks for all advice and comments, appreciated.

...As a follow on to this, you said you had them from Eurocarparts... I always look at both them, and Carparts4less as they have the same stock, are run by the same people (Even though they deny this) And often, one will have a better price/discount then the other! Worth comparing first. They bothe deliver for free too, so if hey are further afield, this shouldn't be too problematic. Order ahead and most things arrive quick anyway so don't bother paying more for quicker delivery unless its essential. BTW, I had a battery from Carparts4less, replaced under warranty... Guess where I took the old one and collected the new one! Yep, my local Euro!

It is also well worth ordering online, even when collecting as online codes almost always have better prices then going instore to order!
