Whats the recommended route for the front 340mm?

 

Current ones have the "not a design flaw" score around (left front) disc and generally they're past their best @ 13k miles.

 

Thinking smooth brembo + matching pads but if there is a benefit to drilled/dimpled/grooved im game.

 

Fast road but given that we are almost into snow season its not stupidly important.

 

This is what im thinking:

 

Discs: Brembo 09.C306.11 Brake Disc Rotors

Pads: BREMBO P 85 144 Brake Pads

Just recently did mine, but was still on the original disc's and pads at 40k.

 

Chose to go down the ATE solid disc's and ATE ceramic pads via CarTech One, came in just under £200 for the front end, which is not bad for 340 disc's.

 

The ceramic pads are interesting, with a very strong bite with very little pedal pressure which I like, they are also supposed to be low dust

I am thinking these after Christmas.  Clubsport GTI brakes.

After speaking with one of my mates whos a VAG mechanic, he's advised to go down the MTEC route for price/performance based on the S3:

 

Discs: MTEC1807 C-HOOK BRAKE DISCS SKU: 6013346

Pads: MDB3814 MINTEX BRAKE PADS SKU: MDB3814

Well, fitted them yesterday will take a while to scrub in before i can say for sure but they definitely have a lot of initial bite

Any pictures behind the wheels? Would also be interested in the noise levels with the c hook design.

New brakes look great. That number plate and it's spacing... not so much.

No noticeable noise nothing like slotted ones I’ve had in the past.

Yea directional so C is open towards the back on both sides as it passes through the caliper

Well if you are going to go the whole hog Vagbremtechnic J-hooks (a la AP racing disk design) are the way to go.

 

However I have not found the performance of plain-faced Brembo or ATE disks paired with ATE pads lacking for road use, even when driven under an exemption.
