I never got round to actually driving the 1.0, how does it compare to the 1.4?

Pretty well - although I've gone from 1.4 Manual to 1.0 DSG, which I think makes a huge difference.

It's so smooth/quiet, that I'm having to constantly keep an eye my speed. Pulling out of junctions is great - find my self up to speed a lot quicker than expected.

Going to plug in the RaceChip this weekend and see how it performs with that too. At least I know I can happily drive without it, which is something I was worried about.

Seems I also have something on the engine block that is slowly burning off (dealership said to give it a few days) so when giving it the beans, it stinks when you stop :(

Hi, Liggy, I've never driven the 1.4  but can only compare the 1.0 tsi with other brands I have had like a 3.2 petrol, a 1.8 and a 1.2 petrol.

Think the 1.4tsi must be very good as I find the 1.0 tsi is amazing , with power enough and seems like a much more powerful engine .

@gRoberts   Could it be the Gasoline Particulate Filter that is the source of the smell?

Congratulations, its a beauty and yes I found it needs a different type of driving. Once I got used to switching off the start/stop before most journey's  and engaging neutral before arriving at junction. Otherwise the stop start can cause a few unexpected drama's.  It soon becomes a pleasure to drive.

I have the 1.2 DSG and you have to learn how to work with Start /stop. i had some issues originally 2 1/2 years ago! But now love and S/S and the smoothness of the car and getting up to speed etc. Try the "launch" mode i.e. in cruise control temp switch off, then after slowing down rengage and it will drive upto preset speed rapidly!! ;<)

Quite possible - I haven't actually had the chance to look around it properly yet so this weekend she's getting a good seeing to :D

Cruise control definitely caught me off guard yesterday when seeing what ACC was like off the motorways.

Dealer had set the default distance to be very close which not only caused the car to shoot off when the car in front pulled into a junction but then slammed the anchors on as the car in front came close.

There is a bit of lag between putting your foot down from a stop. Caught me off guard when turning into a side road from a complete stop (engine still running) but these are things I will get used to I'm sure.

Overall, really happy with it so far.

Poor thing is getting torn to pieces this weekend. Need to refit dadhcams etc.
