First reviews of Kodiaq vRS...

Featured Replies

Sorry Skoda, I haven't changed my mind on my initial thoughts "What are you thinking?"

IMHO a vRS badge was more deserving of:

1.  A 4x4  TSI Octavia (with 265+ PS/overboost function)

2.  A Fabia

3.  A CitiGO

A Kodiaq doesn't and never did factor on my list of current models which can 'pull off' a vRS badge.  I bet the Annual 2017 VAG Kick off meeting went something like...

Skoda CEO: Can we make a hotter 4x4 petrol Octavia vRS?
VW overlord: No, that would steal sales from our Golf R's

Skoda CEO: What about another go at the Fabia vRS, that has proper rally heritage?

VW overlord: Again, no...we are going to release a new Polo GTI and need to steal some sales from that pesky Fiesta ST

Skoda CEO: At least give us a Citi GO vRS, that won't bother anyone.

VW overlord: You obviously didn't get the memo about us making the Up GTI?!

Skoda CEO: [looks through the 2018 draft sales brochure] Ha, that's it! the Kodiaq, let us put a vRS badge on the biggest, least dynamic car we produce and we'll charge people silly money for it?!

VW overlord: [picks themselves up, and tries to maintain a straight face] Yeah why not, that sounds like a strategically sound plan for the group.  Great idea, pass my pen....

They'll still sell though.

Irrespective of driving dynamics, it looks pretty smart, and after discounts and localised incentives will be pretty competitive price-wise versus competition.

Only 300 of them coming to the UK next year...

"Sell out success" :)

You Sir, are correct!

You mean it'll still LEASE.

No sensible person in their right mind is going to pay that price with their own money.

If Skoda are offering 'incentives' and discounts to sell it, then surely that implies the vehicle is over priced.

Neither of my two local dealerships would even entertain offering a discount when I was purchasing my Octavia Scout: "don't have to, these things sell themselves" & "why do you think we don't keep one as a demonstrator, we never have it long enough."*

For comparison, a Cupra Ateca is £35k. Is two extra seats and a Skoda badge really worth an extra £8k?

*I went via a broker and got a brand new one with £4.5k knocked off (and a few freebies thrown in) far less than Skoda were selling 1 and 2 year old ones.

£43K is list. No one pays list.

Skoda's incentives and discounts mean the actual price for the car is a lot less. It's their way of artificially increasing the cars value.

The average discounts on the Kodiaq range from between 15% and 20%, so that could see a vRS for around £34K.

The limited numbers into the UK is interesting, and if true would likely mean discounts will be restricted.

What else can you buy for the same money? Not a lot.

I've had two Octavia Scouts. You're right, much like the Yeti, Skoda dealers could charge full list price all day every day for the MkII Octavia Scout back in the day. Those days are long gone though. The MkIII's resale values aren't all that, and as a result prices for a new one will fall inline.

RRP
£42,870

according to CarWow

Yes list but that mean £450 per year road tax for years 2-6

Tiguan AllSpace was available with the same engine, for £39k and more kit. Not currently on sale but I assume that’s a WLTP thing and it’ll be back available to order at some point.

VW are not bothering that much with the Bi-turbo diesels are they?  Dead parrots more or less and let Skoda have a last hoorah with them and get some magazine and internet coverage with the over priced SUV.

If there is only 300 coming to UK in a year, that’s less than 2 per dealer, why offer discounts

Probably less if some are allocated as senior Management cars.

I guess when the Management have played in them for a few months some will get dumped on the market, for those who want a secondhand one.

Exactly.  I noticed earlier this week that the 240PS BiTDI is no longer available for the UK Passat.  Shame really as that engine would have been perfect for the Superb 3, from the outset.

As you suggest the 190 diesel will give you 230 odd brake and 500nm of torque when tinkerd with from most of the reputable tuning boxes or remaps. What you do lose are looks. I would prefer the 280ps engine out the superb with a little more fettling.

The reviews overwhelmingly seem to mention one thing; that it's barely any more special than a significantly cheaper Sportline 190.

As another poster has already commented, the Citigo or Fabia seem more sensible models for VRS treatment and would be better mass sellers.

£43k is a lot for a Skoda, but in this day and age it's all about the monthlies. Can't imagine depreciation will be kind either though to help those PCPs and leases.

In 2 years time these will be a steal! I personally really like the look but the fact list price is over 40k means it's a no go for company car drivers.

Was looking at the below image on one of the reviews...  Is that a rimless rear view mirror?!  (Saw something similar on a new volvo and thought it was nice.

Just looked at my rear view mirror on the Alhamba and it is rimless. That big a deal that for 35,000 miles I never noticed that.

I wanna see the condition of those 20" alloys, the drivers lower spine and the painted panels and bumper after this shot....

Looks like the normal mirror to me, which has a very narrow rim around it.

Not a big deal. I watched a 5th gear review where they called it out in a Volvo review and it occurred to me that rear view mirror design hasn’t changed much at all (with the exception of auto dimming)

it it was interesting to see some companies take it into account.

£43k is a lot, and by time it’s a year or two old, what have you really gained by choosing this over getting say a 2 year old Porsche Macan, or a Audi SQ5 or Volvo XC90 T8

After 2 years I would have 2 years old car. Not 4. years old.

New is new.
