First reviews of Kodiaq vRS...

Featured Replies

New is new, but if I had a budget of £40,000 it wouldn't be going Skoda's way.

Before we ordered our £29,000 Kodiaq Scout I very nearly bought a used XC90, but at that price they were just too high mileage.

There will always be an argument on the new Vs old, but circa 40k accounting for possible discount is still a massive budget and I can't see a big market for a 43k Skoda. It's difficult to ignore other stuff nearly new in a similar price range.

30 seconds of searching turned up this X5 30d M Sport for 42k. It's not even a year old.

It was never and is never about a big market.

The Kodiaq vRS will be a bigger sales flop than the Mk2 Fabia vRS & Ibiza Cupra that VW said was a sales flop even though in the UK it sold more than double the Polo GTI 1.4 TSI

and 6 times more than the Audi A1 185ps 1.4TFSI.

It is doing what VW wanted Skoda to do and get some media coverage and space.

They have nothing special to offer with Skoda, the Scala is not 'ground breaking'.  There is no E-citigo coming soon or C-Vision etc.

More important would have been a new 'Roomster', something that there is a market for if built properly.  Maybe with AWD as a sort of Cross Yeti / Roomster.

Practical and reliable and all the gear people want and sensible wheel / tyre sizes etc.

Skoda has no Warm or Hot Hatch that is not the size of a Airport Transporter /Taxi or Elephant.

All the Motorsport Success and Heritage and all you get is something that is about the size of commercial vehicles and no quicker or better handling.

even when breaking SUV 7 seater records on the Nurburgring.

The Skoda Kodiaq vRS natural colour should be white, as that is what it is, a 'white elephant'.

Lots of show, some noise but not in a nice way and a bit of go on a charge.

Everyone has his own reasons.

I cannot buy a used car. I drive long distances.  Often in the areas any road assistance is hundreds of miles away. I cannot allow myself stuck with my second hand car (buying a second hand car is always a lottery) in the middle of nowhere.

You can argue about that a lot but that`s my policy.

I also cannot buy premium.

My vRS had a price tag 54 000 euros. With loyal customer discount I ended at 50 000.

Audi has massive campaign in here till the end of the year. Q5 140 kW at 49 000 and Q7 210 kW at 57 800 euros.

I can afford 8000 euros more expensive car.

But I cannot drive Audi down to my clients. I can drive Skoda there though.

Besides, my neighbour has Lexus RX450 and Audi Q8, but he still keeps B6 Passat to visit clients :)

I feel like the vRS models are suited to the Octavia and I’d even stretch to say the Superb would fit the vRS trim well, but it looks like the Kodiaq is trying far too hard to impress. I think the Kodiaq in Sportline trim with lots of extras is much more appealing.

Agreed.

But you cannot get 500 Nm in Sportline.

That’s really not a problem for the vast majority of people.

Is that a rimless rear view mirror?!

Yes, same as on my Superb.  It is a nice design touch.

100% agree.  If I had ~£40K and wanted a large, classy SUV then the Volvo would ticketh my box.  If I didn't want the 7 seats but wanted something sporty (actual go to match show) then I'd get a Macan S and even have some money left over to pay for Porsche servicing for a year or two.

Both will likely retain much more value in 3-5 years too.

True. But this vast majority do not discuss in vRS thread.
