Random item appeared in driver footwell

Featured Replies

Hi,

I picked up a used VRS recently and the following morning found this in the drivers footwell.  Dealership told me not to worry and bin it but after a lifetime in engineering of safety critical plant, if a component appears where it should not it goes against the grain just to bin it and carry on.

Any ideas where it has come from?

(Looks like it's made of nylon, about an inch and a half in diameter three quarters of an inch high. It's threaded on the outside but has a couple of flats for a spanner perhaps. The hole in the middle is about 10 mm diameter and has no thread.)

THanks

Simon

Have you had any work done recently?

Maybe something from the dampening on the glove box?

Nothing from around there, I've become quite acquainted with the glovebox, especially removing it and putting it back together.

Check around your pedals, as it looks like it could one of the adjusters?

Snap, I found actually the same piece in my drivers footwell, wrongly I had assumed it had rolled there after a tip run taking some fitted wardrobe doors for disposal. Fortunately I just put it in the door bin and it's still there. Car is in for service in early January looks like the dealer will have try and work out where it goes.

Thanks for comments. Worrying as it should not just fall off.

My car has done 16k miles as I’ve just bought used from main dealer but 200 miles from home so not easy just to pop it back in.

As of now I’m more intrigued than worried but would really like to get to the bottom of this.

I'm sure I've seen a thread on here somewhere with a similar story - sure it turned out to be a component of the brake pedal assembly.

Thanks, I’ve had a search but cant find it.

If you’ve got any other info (or gold star, the time to find a link) I’d really appreciate it as bits coming of brake pedals is not ideal

Thanks

Simon

Others are better at searching posts than me!

Guess what I just found in the footwell....have poked it back in thanks to above diagram, but it just appears to be sat there loose?

Oh dear, this looks like the captive plastic nut that keeps the top of the clutch pedal mounted to the top of the box area. Yes, it shouldn't have fallen off and I suspect that it needs to be screwed back on with locktite. The trouble is it is located in a completely inaccessible area underneath the right foot area. Dashboard lower cowling may need to removed.
