Does your load cover in the boot retract as slowly as mine?

I've observed that the load cover in the boot retracts much slower in my Kodiaq than on our previous Skoda's.

It doesn't overly bother me, my only concern is that in my experience they tend to get slower as the car gets older, just by the very nature of the sprung loaded system becoming less, erm, springy!

If it is indeed slower than it should be (hence the poll) I'll pursue the dealer again (they told me it's retracting normally)

If you could vote that would be appreciated!

Have you cleaned the guide rails?

Mine is the same.  I also think it is too slow.  Then again I also want the boot to open faster. Feels like ages waiting for it to open.

The car is almost new, so the rails are clean and clear.

Between the electric boot opening and the load cover retracting it feels like an age before you can actually do what you opened the boot to do!

Mines the same. Although it closes at the same speed your's seems alit smoother than mine. Mine tends to snag and won't close evenly. I was thinking about taking it back for them to look at.

Mines a bit faster than that, but it's not rapid. Not an issue for me as 99% of the time it lives under the boot floor.

The tailgate though is a major frustration for me though. I don't have much patience and I hate it. Much rather have a manual one.

Mine is exactly the same. I asked the dealer if it was right when it went for it’s 1st service and they said it was acceptable. It is annoying and I think it should retract quicker....bit I think I’m just used to it now.

Had the seven seats up last night, so took the opportunity whilst the load cover was out to try a squirt of WD40 on the mechanism and on the runners.

Worked a treat, it's probably about as twice as fast as before...

Now it is colder it has slowed right down again.

No one else has mentioned it in the year since I created this poll so I'm guessing that it is normal on the Kodiaq.

Both of our two Kodiaq’s are the same, it definitely slows down retraction in cold weather.

Mine is the same, always retracts, just very s-l-o-w-l-y !

Mine self retracts in cold weather, in fact it changes gender 🤣

just lube the runners with some silicon grease - works a treat for me on our Octavia with the same style cover...

Same speed for me.

I tried that, as per the earlier pictures, worked for a little while but it soon slowed down again sadly.

I have no experience of how quick or slow the cover retracts as mine has been in its storage space under the floor from the first week of ownership. It was to much hassle removing and storing it every time I wanted to use the 7 seats, or load up each weekend to go to out caravan.

WD40 is absolutely useless as a lubricant as it evaporates, and I would try some silicon lubricant spray or similar instead.

You're right!  Normal* WD40 is often promoted and recommended as a lubricant, and it does indeed free things up ... temporarily.  But it gets really rather sticky after some time.  It isn't formulated as a lubricant; it's a Water Dispersant (as the name implies).  In the past, I've happily sprayed it onto reluctant locks, plastic clips, and even radio switches, and initially been pleased at the result.  Some months later, though, things were worse than they started, and with no simple way to remove the stickiness.  Nowadays, I use spray PTFE or silicone lubricants.

*  I say "normal WD40" because they now market various versions under the WD40 name, including true lubricants.

Yep aware of that but the stuff you've used appears to be normal silicon free wd40.  Try something with silicon in...   I use servisol silicon grease the sort used to waterproof electrical contacts.  It works and lasts much better.

Any suggestions as an alternative to the WD-40?

I have some GT85 but noticed it is manufactured by the same company that makes WD40...

It does make mention of PTFE though, and suggests it can be used as a lubricant.

I'm pretty sure the WD-40 I used was the standard stuff...

I’ve picked these up when on offer in Aldi/ Lidl and seem to work well

I nowadays use the GT85 and have had no problems.
