Rear camera cleaning system

Featured Replies

Hey guys, do you know if the rear camera will have the cleaning system (spray nozzle) if I won't order rear wiper for liftback?

AFAIK the rear camera doesn't have a spray nozzle and the car certainly won't have it if you don't spec the wiper.

Superb I drove during the test drive few weeks ago, has been equipped with a spray nozzle to keep the rear cam clean. The only question is if a rear wiper is a must...

If you are sure, that this feature comes together only with optional rear wiper, I'll have to change my order...

(although IMHO the rear wiper disturbs the line, and it's simply useless)

I have the rear wiper and it is required in my opinion.

The water runs off the roof down the rear window when moving.

There is a rear high level spoiler that fits to the rear window I believe and this may prevent the water running down?

You learn new things all the time.

I've not seen a VAG car with a spray clean previously but I suppose it had to happen. In saying that, I much prefer the cameras that are only showing when reverse is selected such as the Golf's.

IMHO that's the best option. I have such "hidden camera" in Mercedes GLA, and it's always clean and ready for use when needed...

Since my car has a rear cam, I can't remember when I was using the rear wiper last time...

Coat the rear window with a decent rain repellent (Gtechniq in my case) and the wiper isn’t needed.

This is my experience over the last 3 years / 50k miles.

Does this mean that the rear camera is on all the time? I presume we're talking about an OEM setup here and not an aftermarket one?

personally regretting i not selected that FREE option
yes, i don't like how it looks and can live without it in visibility through rear window aspect

BUT without it is required huge amount of parts to install washer for rear view camera
list of part codes:

+ another water tank with second pump

easier would be remove just wiper than install all that parts

My factory fit rear camera has a cleaning nozzle, but I’ve also the rear wiper so I’m unable to confirm if it would still have one without the wiper.

You don't need the rear wiper to have the wash function on the rear camera.

Whilst Skoda UK aren't exactly renowned for their communications accuracy, all their literature and online configurator would suggest they're independent from each other...

The only additional option you need to add (if it isn't already part of the standard specification for your chosen model) for the rear-view parking camera are the high functionality rear LED lights (extra LED tail light strip on the boot lid, and LED number plate lights), no mention of the free-of-charge rear wiper.

Any idea how to enable the spray function if there's no such "button" on the dashboard? I've found information, that it works together with rear window spray...

I could configure my car with the rear cam and without rear wiper - so maybe it will be the "dry clean only" version

The operation of the rear-view camera wash system is linked to the washing of the "windscreen, or rear screen". So I'm assuming the rear-view camera wash system on cars without the rear wiper is operated in conjunction with the windscreen wash function i.e. pulling the wiper stalk towards you...

Although, in typical Skoda fashion, the manual is very vague, my guess would be that it operates with every 5 or so operations of the windscreen wash system, rather than each time, much like the headlight wash system, where fitted.

I have a hatch with RVC - it doesn't have a washer nozzle.

I don't have a rear wiper either - it is not an option for hatches in Oz.

I wish I could've specc'ed it - the rear wiper that is.

The RVC not having a wash nozzle is not important for me.

My RVC doesn't get dirty.

My rear window on the other hand - always gets dirty!!!!

The Superb is by no means the best looking car and to say the rear wiper spoils the look is miniscule. It does partly blend in with the black window surround.

I would recommend having the option to anyone buying a new car.

Maybe the rear camera would wash automatically when reverse is selected and the front wipers are active, just like the rear wiper activates?

Don't know Your markets, but in Poland we have possibility to order RVC with spray nozzle, but without rear wiper, as it is not required any more.

I've just asked the dealer... They're not sure, but promised me to check it.

Mine has an automatic cleaning system, everytime I walk round the back of the car I give the lens a rub with a wet finger, works perfectley and so far has not let me down.

I've asked the dealer, and they told me, that the rear wiper has been added to my order (as free of charge option) . So it's probably a "must have" opt for the rear cam spray...

According to the Skoda in their MY19 documented changes, the rear view camera does NOT need the rear wiper.

I believe this applies to the UK market though.

I need to have a look as my rear camera get filthy.

Maybe it wasn't an option on the cars made 14 ish month ago, I have no idea.

Another data point.

My Superb Estate - ordered July 2018, Delivered end of Oct, does have a wash-spray for the rear view camera.

I think it operates when some combination of the other stuff is active - reverse selected, park pilot on, washing the rear screen.

(Update: the manual on p159 says the rear view camera is sprayed when the windscreen or rear screen is sprayed.)

I had a look and mine does indeed have a camera squirter. Operated when I do the rear screen.

Doesn't do the best job to be honest and a quick thumb over the lens cleans it up nicely.
