Skoda Connect users?

Featured Replies

Hi all! I have a new MY19 VRS. Ive been trying to work out Skoda connect but thw information around it isnt helpful and the manual is more use as a doorstop it seems.

I have the app, its set up and registered and Im at the screen where I need to enter a code into the car to link the two. Sadly the car isnt up for it, I just get a message saying no internet connection.

Now fair enough, I understand that a connection needs to be made. My question is how? Does the car have a built in way of connecting to whatever servers? Do I need to get an internet sim? Will it only use my phone as a hotspot?

How do I get my car to connect? I cant find anything that says what the car does or doesnt have to support this so any help from the genuises on here would be greatly appreciated!

Either use your phone as a hotspot or buy a 4G sim and a 12v adapter. I’d recommend trying it with just your phone first. I used the service for all of 5 minutes. Like the maps, your phone is just better.

In the dealership he demonstrated it by connecting to a car outside and showing me its fuel level and service status, he made the lights flash too. Does that car have its own connection? Some other posts suggest there is some kind of built in connection but I cant find any information on it. If It uses my phone then I cant connect remotely and theres no way Im paying for a data connection via 4g so I guess its useless. I just have this thing where I want to see things Ive paid for work, even if its just for the sake of it lol

The demo car was probably hooked up to the dealers WiFi.

Even if the data data connection was built in, you’d still have to pay for it.

Cheers @SC03OTT looks like another useless feature lol

Probably worth noting, it's only useful for the traffic, pre-configure trips and the odd poi.

I'm pretty sure only those with the dedicated Sim slot have the ability to communicate with the car (I.e. flash lights, door lock status etc)

Thanks @gRoberts

Connection appears to be very hit & miss. I managed to connect and register eventually but it has been very unstable and suspect there is some issues with the Skoda servers. The functions are not that fantastic, POI and traffic and one or two other bits but I believe that you need a specific software in the car to use it make the lights flash etc as there is no options on the Skoda Connect app to do this.....that I can see, and to do that i'm guessing that it would need a permanent WiFi connection?

@ExSEAT Ask away if you have more questions I have mine setup with a perm Wifi Hotspot (old Galaxy S4 with tethering perm enabled) in the boot. The 'free' connect stuff is limited but online POIs and live traffic for the nav and Online google POI/destination lookups from the nav unit itself are handy as it makes it closer to gmaps. You can also see parking and fuel station/prices too. Connect website telling me I have to be 'verified' at the dealer to view lock/unlock status. I'm guessing some of the other stuff needs money to be spent over the billy basic free stuff.

@Chris245 You're not on EE are you? Appear to be some challenges with Skoda connect and EE which are known issues. I'm on O2/Giffgaff and whilst I've had challenges it usually just works and reconnects automatically i.e. WLAN Globe turns from Red to White which means its working. I have had to change hotspot settings once to get it to reconnect and reboot my GS4 phone once to get it working again recently

Another post to help: Basically you get a year of infotainment online for free.. all the other stuff appears to be cost options. Clearly some items require the car to be online all the time. Details of everything below.

Found this thread from another model on here but equally applicable.

Yup I’m on EE. Seems to be working ok at the moment.

I've not bothered to renew now that Waze is available via carplay. The whole nav system is so clunky and the incompatibility with EE was the final straw for me.
