Headlight shutter fault

Featured Replies

Hey folks!

Have had a good stint of trouble free motoring with the Octavia, however a couple weeks ago my driver's side headlight literally exploded and had to replace it. No biggie, job was simple enough and has been been fine..

Until this week! The shutter on the driver's side stays on high beam.. Until you hit the top of the headlight and it goes down again.. But any time I flash the lights or use the high beam, it'll stick in that position. Any ideas if/how a DIY fix is possible for this? Not sure it's even possible as I think it might involve needing access to the shutter itself..

See attached photo and video!

So was the whole driver side headlight replaced and the new (or used one faulty) or was it just the bulb that was replaced and it's the original headlight

Thanks for the reply! :)Was only the bulb that was replaced when it blew on me before. Still the original headlight unit on the car. Considering looking around breakers for a new unit..

I had this happen on my old Focus. The cluster was replaced which leads me to believe that it isn’t a serviceable part.

Take it there isn’t a little bit of glass or a bent shutter from the impact to the arc going bang?

Yeah if it went bang and the glass exploded then chances are there debris floating around inside.

Could try removing lamp and getting a hoover nozzle to the aperture and try hoovering any crap out

Didn't even think about the shutter being damaged from the bulb smashing but makes sense.. Think I'll spend some time taking the unit out, tipping upside down and try empty it.. Worth a shot! Thanks for the advice! :)
