DSG knob alternatives

Featured Replies

If there's one thing that I particularly dislike about the front interior/console of the Superb (and there aren't many) it's the DSG knob design. Its shape is boring enough but what ruins it completely is that "DSG 4x4" 2 line logo, seriously who came up with that idea? As if either technology would be something to shock your passenger in this decade we're in.

Consequently, I'd like to see some ideas on possible upgrades of the knob. Ideally spherical (but not with Audi S model logo on!), something sporty but subtle. Even the MKII Superb's DSG knob (more like a handle really) was better than the current thing.

Also, my car will have the new DSG7 but I'm assuming the knob will be identical to the DSG6? At least that's what I can see in the 3D configurator but you can only trust these things so much. If so, all DSG6 knob options would be compatible too?

Have u had a look at vw ones? They just say dsg on it but text is small and subtle and engraved in it rather than awful text. I have also thought about changing mine lol

So wat text or graphic do u suggest they have then?

I personally like the design, in terms of how it's shaped, and how it feels.

It's true. There's nothing more personal than your knob.

Yes I currently run a DSG6 VW so I have noticed :D  But even the knob design in my previous DSG7 Skoda was a better execution aesthetically. As I said shape is ok but the text is what kills it really. Seems like they forgot to put anything there so they just took the first standard font they found and came up with two lines quickly (to make up for forgetting) before sending the car for sign off. That font is completely out of the blue, no link with any other logo on the car, and again why do you need to write 4x4 there?? Almost seems aftermarket.

If you're asking me, I don't suggest they have anything, I'm all for minimal, subtle looks. But if they had to write something then definitely just write DSG in the official logo/font or engraving as Adrian said. This thing now looks as an "Untitled1" bog-standard Word document...

So far what comes up is the solutions from BFI: https://store.blackforestindustries.com/bfigs2hewesh.html

Classic round knob with perforated leather or alcantara in your color of choice does not seem bad it all. You can even stick a generic up/down sticker (or I could maybe make a full black one) on the top of the knob as again I would not like to have an aftermarket logo there.

I also thought about the Kodiaq vRS knob, I assume it must be compatible as they are the same boxes essentially but I don't think anyone has tried out that one. And strictly speaking, I wouldn't like a vRS logo on a non-vRS car too. But at least it looks better.

Although for feel the spherical BFI knob will be much better and I do drive in manual most of the time with 50-50 use of paddles or stick so I am probably going down that way.

The image above of an Audi A3 with that gear knob looks little different to what the car ships with. I know because I had one for 3 years before I got the Superb.

I agree the DSG and DSG/4x4 lettering looks naff.

That's because that one is the updated knob from BFI and the same knob would fit all DSG6 cars like the Superb, just wanted to show a pic of how it looks like in the standard colour-material combo.

Here you go

Yep, that's the standard DSG6 knob of the MK7 Golf with what looks like add-on carbon style side stickers? Need to look if it's a direct fit and at what cost.

I currently have that same knob in Clubsport-guise (red stripes along the top leather cover and red stitching over alcantara boot) and it feels fine, although tempted to try something spherical (aftermarket)

That's the one:

It’d be nicer if it was shorter too, standard shift lever is out of a 1930s truck.
