Funny wiring in fuse box

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Had this forum recommended to me from another VAG group .

Ive just bought the old pool car from work (Skoda Superb MK2 Greenline 1.6TDI), it was a deal I couldn't refuse!

I removed the fuse box panel to pinch one for my mates TT when he was in the ****... and I've found a link with an inline fuse which comes from the A/C fuse.. it wasnt light enough for me to follow it but just seems strange. No one at work remembers anything about this happening.

Anyone know the reasons for this? Is it to bypass some wiring maybe?

Any tips would be good.

Probably for powering a dashcam or another 12v socket.

Thanks for the response Gizmo.

I did wonder this also but it's only connected to one side of the fuse link, the other (I assume) will be dead, so it offers no benefits or added connection facility.

I'll have another gander tomorrow when it is lighter

Being a pool car, is it likely that the car was fitted with a tracker?

It only needs to be connected to one side of the fuse link. It'll provide power and whatever is connected will probably be grounded near wherever it is...

It could even be a 'repair', does the bottom connector of the fuse actually have a metal terminal fitted?

Hi Greenstripe - No tracker, my boss has never bothered with them. Seems strange they would use the A/C one as it will only be energised when the A/C is on surely.

Cheers langers2k - Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying, it offers no additional connections. The 12V side is what I imagine they've used and the other is the grounded side (I'll have to check if there is!) which has nothing in it.

I can only assume it is a repair, but now I'm the owner... I'm wondering why haha!

It is still likely providing power to something. The ground / earth could be somewhere else.

Does / did the car have a hands-free telephone kit fitted, such as a Parrot?

Here is the fuse box on my 2011 Superb.

The blue wire (pointed at with the red arrow) was there from new. The supplying dealer fitted a Skoda-approved Nokia hands-free telephone kit. The blue wire is feeding it power.

Looks remarkably similar to the connection in your fuse box, so my money is on a hands-free kit that is either still there, or has been partially removed...

Cheers Silver - It has built in phone, no parrot or anything. Certainly something to look into though! The use of the A/C fuse is what I find bizarre.. A/C still works so it must have been bypassed somehow.

The A/C may well be powered / fused from another fuse location.

Some of the empty fuse slots still provide a switched live. Chances are whoever fitted the phone kit tested the empty fuse slots to find a switched live, and that's the one he found first.

There are different air conditioner options available which will have different fuse/relay requirements.

The chart in the manual has to show all fuses for all possible vehicle configurations so the chances are that the A/C in your car uses a different fuse to the one you think it is.

Cheers guys! Massive help! I'll update tomorrow when/if I can't find what's what.

Pull it out and see what stops working.

I met my wife at work. That's just how I did it.
