Remap

Featured Replies

Hi, Just joined Briskoda having purchased my Fabia Vrs last week. After having a good trawl through the forums, one of the most common performance adjustments I found was this remapping. Am I right in believing this is an adjustment to the engine management system and if so:1. How much is the power increase (BHP) 2. If the upgrade noticeable 3. Where do I get it done 4. Is MPG significantley affected for the worse. Any further info for a newbie would be much appreciated. Kind regards form a well chuffed new Skoda owner

Hi Torty,

Welcome to the forum !

To give you some quick answer to your questions.

1. Yes, it's an adjustment to the engine management system, power varies but another 30bhp to 40bhp plus should be acheivable on your car.

2. Performance wise oh yes ! Physically, no there is nothing to see & difficult to detect other than by through driving the car.

3. Personal choice, there are lots of people remapping these days favourites seem to be (but not limited to) Revo, Jabba, Upsolute. Mine was done by a company called Angel Tuning. Search the forum for more details on companies remapping.

4. No. In fact, many claim improved mpg & despite a huge performance improvement my mpg stayed about the same after the remap.

Quite easy to physically detect if you look in the ECU (and you know what you're looking for!)....

my stealers noticed it straight away when some warranty work was needed, and i had an odbii remap.

only way to be certain that they wont tell is to get a switchable remap or a tuning box.

Are jabba remaps easy to spot?

Are Impossible Performance being neglected, again .:P

I sent IP an email about a Fabia remap, even mentioned Briskoda and didn't get a reply. I wouldn't go to them

They can tell. Last week technician says to me "can you come out in this car with me I need you to hold the diagnostic unit and maybe push a few buttons after prompts appear"

Very curious I say"ok"

Diagnostic tells us to get coolant to 85 degrees working temperature and then we are told to perform accelaration test.

Test concludes "No performance chip fitted"

This particular car (vRS Fabia) was running so well it felt like it was chipped.

I say to techie "will this detect switchable remap or little tuning box?"

"Oh aye", was the reply.

Oh yes they can tell.

It's very easy to tell mate, believe me. Not using VAG-COM admittadly but there are many other systems they can check including the most obvious which is taking the car out for a test drive.

I would think the easiest way is to download the ECU data and compare it to an original unmodified file.

When ever a dataset is modified the checksum is changed and even free programs found on the internet can read this from the file
