Starter problems

Featured Replies

Hi folks, seems my starter is goosed but thinking it's a loose wire somewhere as it's temperamental but I've noticed that when it I try turn it over the fuel pump primes but then 5 mins later try again and fuel pump can't be heard?? Should I be looking for another split/worn wire somewhere other than the starter?? Any suggestions welcomed...thanx in advance

I think your starter solenoid is probably shot however no harm in checking the wiring and also the ignition switch as these can also give trouble.

Can be the solenoid, can be the carbon brushes, can be the wiring. The fuel pump issue might be a coincidence. It's a separate circuit. The fuel pump can fail too after a while, you know.

Or, indeed, since you have no fuel flow once the system has pressurised, the fuel pump could be fine.

Very common for the red/black wire to the starter solenoid to be breaking near the connector cable entry. One of those mk1 Fabia problems that's more of a 'when' than an 'if'.
