New tyre recmondations for 19" Extreme Alloys?

Featured Replies

So almost time for me do do the first change of tyres on my vrs. Just wondering if members on the forum have any recommendations?

Looking for good quality all year Around. Price and brand not to much of a concern for quality as through work I can swing a discount

Outright performance tyre of today but even discounted you're looking at about 150 quid a quarter.

A good all rounder which many like are the Goodyear Eagle F1A3, Whichever you go for 235 width are cheaper than 225's that are factory fitted

How does fitting 235s to 225 wheels work, is it all good and works no problem? Know you probably test your tyres a bit MWNA so assume it does. Is there a limit to this in terms of difference in width or is it more a percentage difference thing so 10mm on wide wheels no issues but on an aygo might be?

Unnecessarily typing thoughts!

Does it ever get below +7c or snow where you live ?

If so the summer tyre options will not be great

In parts of Ireland might even get away with using winter tyres all year.

The 19 inch Octavia wheels are 7.5inch width, which will take anywhere from 205 to 235 section tyres.

Arguably the more important consideration if you ever change sizes is the overall diameter (or rolling circumference), as this will affect the calibration of your speedo.

Changing from 225/35R19 to 235/35R19 will result in a very small increase in diameter (about 1%) and so cause your speed to be fractionally higher than your car thinks it is but you're talking about 1mph discrepancy at 70mph at these sizes, the car likely already over reads more than that.

You'd see more change than this by wearing the 8mm of tread down to 3mm, so this particular size change is about as much of a non issue as you're likely to see with a size change.

The 225s were likely originally fitted because they gave slightly better performance for mpg testing.
