Kessy configuration

Featured Replies

Trying to get my head around this.

My Yeti was simple. I had it set so one press on the key opened the drivers door only and a second press would open all the other doors.

The Karoq handbook says:

 Opening and closing. All doors
The function allows you to unlock all doors, the boot lid and the fuel filler flap.
Single door
The function allows you to unlock only the driver's door and the fuel filler flap with the radio remote control. KESSY allows the unlocking of a single door which is in the vicinity of the key, as well as the fuel filler flap. The other doors and the boot lid are only unlocked once the door handle is unlocked or touched.
Doors on a vehicle side
This function enables you to unlock both doors on the driver's side and the fuel filler flap with the radio remote control unit. KESSY allows the unlocking of both doors which are in the vicinity of the key, as well as the fuel filler flap. The other doors and the boot lid are only unlocked once the door handle is un- locked or touched.

What is the point of unlocking a single door (or both doors on one side) and the other doors opening anyway as soon as “the door handle is unlocked or touched.”.  Does that mean the drivers door handle is touched or whatever other door is subsequently touched. Where is the security in that when all a thief or hijacker has to do is touch the handle to unlock the door?

That 'Kessy' lock business isn't half as clever as it should be......as for the above quote from the handbook, I blame Blair and Campbell, they were masters at it, turning a obvious shortcoming into a positive.

Depending on how you've set-up the system and assuming you have the key on your person, KESSY will only allow the door/s you're stood next to to be opened via touch, i.e. if you're stood by the drivers door, someone wouldn't be able to open the passenger door before you touch, and therefore unlock the drivers door which then unlocks the whole car.

I guess it depends on where you live and you're attitudes towards security.

You could unlock the car using the remote (after setting up single door & same side rear door opening), open the drivers side rear door and place your bag / coat etc. on the rear seats, open the drivers door using KESSY (and therefore opening all doors), get in the car and immediately re-lock the whole car using the lock button situated on the centre console.

The benefits of KESSY far outweigh the extra 10 seconds of vulnerability whilst accessing the vehicle.

The fact that once you have unlocked/opened the drivers door and as soon as someone touches another door it opens makes the drivers door and drivers side doors scenarios superfluous. It’s just window dressing with no practical effect.

The only useful thing is the ability to disable kessy when locking the car.

I have mine set so that the key fob only opens the drivers door, two presses opens all doors, with KESSY, that is also set to only open the door where I place my hand between the door handle, if I repeat the manoeuvre twice then all doors open, it can be set up in the settings.

Hope this helps

Thanks.

I’ll have to look for this. I thought I had this set up in settings so must be doing something wrong.

How are you checking the operation of f your settings? If you have the KESSY key in your pocket when you expect the passenger side to be locked, of course they will unlock for you.

Suggest you read my original post. This is a question about security not testing kessy

Sorry thought you were actually trying the various options instead of believing what’s written in the owners book of fairytales :)

I think I may have sussed it.

1.  I had the car securely locked (kessy disabled). Today I unlocked it with the key fob, left the key on the driver’s seat, walked around to the passenger door and it was still locked. Result!

2.  I then locked the car by touching the sensor, walked away and counted to 10. I then walked back, unlocked it using the sensor, left the key on the driver’s seat, walked around the car and the passenger door was still locked. Result!

This is precisely what I wanted to happen.

So what was going on before?

My wife had her key in her handbag!!!

Modern technology!

I have same car same year as you and my kessy does not work at all. As I stand by the door the car does not unlock when I grasp the handle. Strangely when i leave the car brushing the indent on the handle locks the car. Have you any ideas why this happens please

Have you tried sliding your hand between the door and handle, grabbing the handle may confuse it as you may be touching both lock and unlock sensors together.
