Tyre advice please

Just in case anyone is interested..

I changed all 4 of my tyres last week. From the stock P7s to Vredestein Quatrac 5 all seasons.

Did 21k miles on the P7s, and credit to them, there was still 4.5mm tread left on the rears (which I've kept, although I doubt I'll ever fit them again...)

First thing I noticed was the noise was much improved on the Quatrac 5 s compared to the P7s. Like someone has mentioned, this could be down to weight. A brand New Quatrac 5 weighs 11.9 kg and the rear P7s that came off were 9.8kg (I weighed them). But this is also obviously down to tyre construction, material compound and tread pattern.

The new boots have now been scrubbed in after about 200-300 miles and they feel excellent (were definitely a bit squirmy when new, as to be expected). As far as I can make out, they now handle just as good as the P7s in the same driving conditions so far. I'm just looking forward to some cold weather now

Bought the Vredesteins from alltyres365.co.uk as they were the cheapest and got them all fitted by a local tyre fitter for £60.

Would also like to point out that all 4 new tyres fitted in the Superb's cavernous boot side by side perfectly, with a bit of room to spare. Nice.

Luckily I fitted the Quatrac 5's a week or two before the first snow fall of  Winter '18....absolutely brilliant.  That was on a FWD Superb.  I kept them for the 280 and I'm sure the 4x4 will equate to even more sure footedness.   Snow inbound tomorrow so I may find out...

How did you get on with buying from alltyres365? Online reviews aren't great but they do appear cheap.

In fact many of the 'looks like the UK but somewhere in Europe' gang seem hit and miss.

Absolutely fine. No problem.

They came from Europe, yes. Took about a week. Delivery by dpd. Had to be in to sign for them but yeah, all fine.

I ended up going with camskill in the end - a gnats under 600 (so about 30 quid dearer than alltyres365 by a a couple of quid a tyre + delivery) but UK based.

Sod's Law says it will snow next week and the courier will get stuck :D

Road noise - they are significantly quieter than the P7's. To the point where wind noise (pipe down in the cheap seats) is now more noticeable than road noise on the quieter sections of motorways.

Grip - I haven't done a launch control (and never will - it's not my kind of driving) but I have given it the beans from c20mph a couple of times on clear but greasy roads as a bit of a test. No slip whatsoever, so I'm comfortable they will have all the grip I need. Again, better than the P7's in my view.

Responsiveness - this one could be purely psychological but I definitely feel more connected to the road. The Superb is obviously a barge, but to me it feels more reactive than it did to steering input.

Overall - very glad I switched and would recommend as summer tyres.
