Octavia Scout / Laurin & Klement (L&K) - Discontinued

Featured Replies

From Skoda UK Customer Services:

"Thank you for your recent email to ŠKODA UK. Unfortunately, the OCTAVIA Scout and OCTAVIA L&K are no longer available.

The vehicles listed below have been removed from production as of 03 January 2019:

OCTAVIA Scout
OCTAVIA L&K
KODIAQ SE Technology (five and seven seater)
KODIAQ SE L (five seater)
KODIAQ Edition (five seater)

The reason for this, is that we do not anticipate that there would be sufficient orders of this specification for the UK market. I am sincerely sorry for any disappointment that this may cause and understand why you would be interested in this product.

It is no longer available to order as a new factory order, the only availability we have at the moment is stock vehicles.

I would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this, I understand how important it was selecting the perfect vehicle for yourself."

Not surprised about the L&K, far too expensive to justify really for what it is.

Same with the 5 seat Kodiaqs, it just can’t make financial sense to not fit them.

So does that mean the whole Octavia Scout range has gone?

If it has, I blame the mad onslaught of SUVs: cars on stilts.

So mad loads of people buy them...

Shame about the Octavia Scout being discontinued. I love mine.

Axing the Octavia Scout is a massive shock . Why do Skoda UK always give us the short end of the stick regarding some of the best cars Skoda make? I really wanted a new 2.0TSI Scout which was expected any time now but will run my 4x4 MK2 into the ground now instead.

Pretty bizarre axing what I would have thought would have been pretty popular Kodiaq models and the Octavia Scout too, doesn't seem to make much sense. The Octavia L & K was never going to do well in competition against the Superb in any case, so I can see why it would be dropped given how expensive it is.

The spec document says you can buy a 2.0 TSI SE L 4x4 though.
Not quite the same as a Scout but still 4x4.

Surprised by the Scout I see enough of them on the road to have thought sales were justified.

Skoda UK pumped the market full of cheap lease (PCH) deals on the Scout. I leased one in 2016.

I'd not seen any deals cheaper before, or seen anything anywhere near as good since.

£198 per month, amortised (including the deposit) for 2 years / 8,000 miles/year...

I wonder how long the 4x4 will survive at all in the uk. Scouts massively out number normal 4x4s maybe 10 to one on 2016-present cars if you look on autotrader so you would expect the normal 4x4 to get the boot long before the Scout.

If the 4x4 continues without a scout option it would be good if they spec the rough road package as standard like it was on the MK2.

I just checked on the Octavia section of the website. there is a * next to the L&K and the Scout which then leads to a footnote:

Quote

The OCTAVIA HATCH L&K, OCTAVIA ESTATE L&K & OCTAVIA ESTATE SCOUT models are only available from stock. Please check availability with your local ŠKODA Retailer.

I wonder how long it will take them to remove those options from the configurator. March, perhaps ?

and what about the 4x4 diesel vRS ?

And a lovely car it is, too. Been SUV’d to death, I’m afraid.

Also probably due to Skoda Octavia mk4 coming out later in the year so they are winding down their range to the popular models only and then do the specials for last few months before the launch of the mk4.

Pretty sure the Mk4 is a good 12-18 months away at best, no?

Yes agreed.

It wouldn't surprise me if the MK4s include a plug-in hybrid version - and they could do what I think Peugeot (?) did on one of their models and stick the electric gubbins on the back axle to make it 4x4-capable.

They are still winding *up* the range.

Some of the L&K and Scout options, and for instance some of the VRSs only appeared in the December spec document for the first time in MY19.

It's a shame that the Scout is no longer available ...... hope it's available on the next guise of the Octavia although I don't buy new so would probably look at a Facelift MK3 when the time comes

Maybe it's because they can't get the emissions low enough based on the new regulations coming in. Read somewhere that the scout was about 6 times the new nox limit

It does make a little sense them shrinking the Kodiaq range, as there are a few too many combinations.

I don't understand why they'd get rid of the Scout, as there's a market for it. Also the L&K, don't understand that neither

I'd have thought they'd have minimised the SE range, as there are 3: the standard SE, the SE technology and the SE L. 3 very similar specs, just a few subtle changes, but nothing which can't be added on the config page.

I'd keep the S, the SE, the L&K , the VRS and the Scout. The basic, the all rounder, the 'bells and whistles', the sporty version and the rugged go anywhere.

Big shame the L&K has gone in my opinion.

I had a pre-FL one, and aside from a fairly poor ride and road noise, the amount of equipment / spec for a sub £30k price tag (and a very reasonable lease cost for high mileage) was unrivalled.

All about efficiency and cost saving now eh!

All about the boss of SKODA announcing 19 new models by the end of 2020, and so far there is a Fabia Face Lift and a Scala not yet available.

(EDIT Or is that product range!) "19 new models or variants."

Nothing with a hint of being a Hybrid or a EV yet.  There are 300 Kodiaq vRS with a Bi-Turbo Diesel coming, because VW want to use those engines, but then that is not a new model.

So so far a Scala , 18 more new models to announce, and reveal and open order books for then deliver.

'Simply Clever  & dead easy' if they can do that.

I suppose if luxury and comfort are what you’re after, why get the Octavia when you can get the Superb for virtually the same price?

Ultimately it will be a financial (sales) decision. They clearly weren’t shifting enough L&Ks in the U.K. market and I can understand why.

I agree, but when I ordered mine the S3 wasn’t out.

Agreed, the L&K used to make much more sense. I remember when I had my mk2 Elegance, I would have loved the upgrade. But now, if I was going to spend that sort of money I’d have no question about the model I’d be going for.
