Door locks

Featured Replies

Hi skoda lovers.. does anyone know why my skoda fabia estate 1.4 td reg 04 .... My doors lock after i opened then sometimes ciuple secs then sometimes they lock when i am drivin any ideas as to why   Many Thanks in advance for those who reply to me.. i am puzzled regarding this

Anti-hijack, it can be disabled from VCDS.

My Fab's auto door locking habits changed 2 weeks ago! They used to auto lock about 1 minute after unlocking but only if a door had not been opened (i.e. no activity on the car). But now they auto lock after 10 seconds!! Even if a door has been opened and is still open. Any ideas please? Can it be disabled? Thanks very much.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to disable an anti-theft measure?

There are two locking behaviours I know of.

Firstly, anti-theft', the car will lock itself again 30 seconds after being given the fob unlock signal if it does not get a door or hatch opening signal in that time. This is normal and common to all fabias as far as I know.

Secondly, anti-hijack', there is an option for the car to lock all doors and hatch when you reach 10mph after you first get in and drive off. They should remain locked until you come to a stop and remove the key from ignition or operate an interior door handle or unlock button. This option can be switched on or off with dealer tool or VCDS. The doors also unlock if the airbags deploy in an impact.

If your car is doing these its 'normal'. If it's behaving otherwise there's a problem.

The anti-theft can be a problem if the door open signal fails as mine currently has on the driver door as the car will often lock itself again despite me opening the door and getting in. It has also locked itself with the key in the ignition and me outside the car. I had to break a window to get in.

That's a very good explanation @LB123.

Two reasons why I disabled anti-hijack (obviously I live somewhere where the threat is low enough for me to not be worried)

1. it's irritating if you stop to pick someone up or drop them off and they can't just get in/out without you remembering to press a button on the door

2. it wears out the door locks twice as fast as with it disabled.

I probably should have added that on some VAG group cars there is a further option of single press of fob to unlock just the drivers door and double press to unlock all doors and hatch or alternative option is single press to unlock everything. However I don't know if fabias do that. My Bora does. Obviously suits the seriously paranoid or security concious who live in dangerous areas. Again this is chosen/enabled with dealer tool or VCDS.

Does your lights on bleep work if you put the sidelights on and open the drivers door?

Nope. Is this another symptom of the microswitch in the door lock that I haven't replaced yet?

Yes, your microswitch has thrown in the towel.
