Creaking top mount.

Featured Replies

I purchased a new Octavia estate last October from a dealer in Inverness to be delivered to Southampton.  Almost immediately I noticed steering was noisier than I would expect, there was fairly loud squeaking when turning the wheel at low speed.

Too far from the dealer to ask them to take a quick look but as luck would have it I met a VAG roadside assistance guy just finishing another job. As he also covered Skodas he offered to take a quick look. Diagnosis was N/S/F macpherson strut top mount creaking. He tried to get some WD40 into the mount without success but said its non urgent so wait till 1st service.

I would assume this would be done under warranty. Anyone else experience anything similar on a new car?

Good news. At 10,000 miles the creaking disappeared. Fingers crossed it won't return so it can be put down to 'running in'

Or the weather? Mine tends to creak worse in the cold.

I had a mk7 golf that would creak when it was warmer. A new febi-bilstein strut top fixed it :-)

My fabia does it when I go over speed bumps but not when driving down the road.
Got to admit that the octivia doesent do it!

You are right, as soon as the minus temperatures returned then so did the creaking though not as loud as last winter.

Sounds like it may be my niggle. Any more info on this?

I'm suspecting top mounts, drop link or this now! Sometimes feels a bit notchy when turning on spot (usually when cold) and a muted popping noise over bumps
