What to do?

Featured Replies

OT from the OP's question but.

A petrol hybrid (not plug in) which Toyota have been doing for a good few years now and can do the local runs without the petrol engine firing up.

Various models in Hatches or estates.

They also come with AWD & a 1.2 petrol automatic, the C-HR.

The comments about 10 year old diesels, relate to ones without the troublesome emissions equipment that was added in recent years

The Yeti came out in 2009, and the diesels were Euro5 compliant then.  I don't know what was added to achieve Euro6 compliance but there was certainly a fair amount of emissions equipment for Euro5 and (as I reported up-thread) my 2010 140 was not troublesome at all, despite a non-optimal usage pattern.

Well, prepare yourselves for a bit of a laugh!!  Remember, I am an elderly female visiting my local Skoda showroom.

So in I goes:D and there is the salesman I saw previously when I wanted to buy a Yeti and was told they would not reduce their showroom model one penny.  So I bought mine from a dealer in Cambridge.....when the salesman 'phoned me to follow up, I told him I had bought one from another dealer and he put the 'phone down on me.  Nice!!

Pretty certain this is the same salesman.  I said could he look up the difference in price between their jungle green and mine and give me an approximate figure.  He hummed and hawed, said he needed an hour to assess mine (really said I ....you have always serviced it!) and it is in great condition barring a few scratches.  Couldn't even find my 'phone number and I was in a hurry as I had an appointment.  Next day he 'phoned 5 times but I couldn't answer that phone and phoned him back the next day.  I said 'have you got the figures yet?'  Says he ' we will give you £10,000 for your car'.....I said 'We buy any car' offered me almost £11,000.  Silence.  Then I asked what he required in cash if I swapped in mine for their 1.2 jungle green.  Mine 2015 theirs 2016.  He said theirs was £14,995 (or thereabouts).  I said I wouldn't consider such a deal and he said..........wait for it........well, yours is just a pretty car, ours is a proper car!!!  And put the 'phone down on me again!!!  How dare he insult my wonderful car!!:D

I wouldn't do business with them anyway - very rude - and the service people are very nice there!!  Not had the fix btw!!

As it happens, I will probably advertise it on here as suggested......but have no idea what to ask for it really.  Will have to do some research.  Mind you, in this weather I have felt very safe in the snow and slippery conditions - great car!!

Okey dokey - quick look - 7,000 miles - should ask £14k really!!!  As soon as the weather improves, I will put it on here for sale - if I can get decent money, I will sell it - if not, will have to give it more of a run periodically.

It's difficult to know what to do for the best, isn't it?  In your situation, I would keep the Yeti I know and love so much - but I would treat Yeti, myself and my partner/friend to a fortnightly drive to a nice restaurant at least 20 miles away.  The cost of meals, fuel etc. would probably be less than the cost of swapping a diesel Yeti for a petrol model.  Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Robjon is correct. It'll cost you thousands to change your car, putting some extra miles on it would be far more cost effective.

Just find a longer route for your commute to bring it to operating temp then - problem solved!
