Dual mass reasonable price

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

After some help again, been told that the dual mass flywheel needs changing but i am getting a second opinion at a local independant garage , what is a reasonable price to pay if it does require replacement?

My car is a octavia estate 2.0 tdi 2015.

Thanks again

I'd budget bout a grand. Personally if your getting the flywheel changed i'd also get the clutch done at the same time.

Thats seems a bit steep to me, the clutch kits that come with the slave an dmf ive seen for bout £350.

Id imagine the grand is inclusive of labour cost to replace.

I had my insignia done last year as the dmf was dying, turned out some tight git had replaced the clutch but not the fly wheel, so i had both done.. they tend to knacker each other so not worth the "saving" of only doing half the job.

Had it done on my MK2 1.9 for about £850 with the clutch too. As above, no point pulling it apart and not replacing everything.

The sachs kit i have found for 280 comes with clutch, dual mass, slave cyclinder etc, if it needs doing i will buy the parts from them and get the to charge labour only should make it alot cheaper.

What is your mileage?

91000

Seek for a second opinion please. Not likely to fail on such a little mileage and young car, but to be honest, clutch and DMF are part who may suffer due to poor driving habits.

What are the symptoms? Usually DMF can work until the point of sever vibration, then you 100% know that it will break. If you don't feel any issue, I would postpone this replacement until so.

Well unless something has drastically changed in the last few years then TBH 91,000 is around the time a DMF will start to fail,if not earlier. Certainly when I was looking for my mk2 back in 2012 and found it with 107,000 on the clock I made sure I checked the service history that it had been done. It had at 82,000. That isn't VAG specific either. A lot of marques will start failing around this time. Age of car seems a bizarre comment to make as well. Ok it's only a 2015 but it's done 91,000 miles.

@hatchy. We have on our company 4 x A5FL, all around 300.000km or more, no DMF changed. I don't think clutch was changed either. Additionally, minimum 50 different drivers are driving them. :)

 Hi all,

So ive got the car back from the garage they took it out and heard the noise but they cant figure out what it is, they have checked wheel bearings suspension antirollbar bushes clutch etc all seems to be working well, said if it gets worse bring back and if it does need large work on it they will deduct any moneys ive already paid which i thought was fair.

Ill keep driving until it gets worse.

Cheers luke

Hi Nidza,

Basically the symptoms are when driving on the motorway/ dual carriagway between 60-70mph there is a noise that sounds almost like a droning noise very similar to wheel bearing, if i drive at 75 the noise almost entirely goes away.

i am going to keep driving it, it doesnt impact the cars driving no vibrations, gear change is smooth etc just a pain.

Cheers luke

My humble opinion that DMF issues  must be somewhat clutch related, engine load related and therefore also RPM related, but not driving speed related. Your issue sounds more like tire/wheel/bearing issue, or something else related to the speed.
