Radio swap

Featured Replies

Hi all ,wondering if I can change the radio in my sons 2001 classic for a later type that allows you to plug a "usb stick" in or his little" music thing" that he carries around with him. Thanks in advance Mick

Of course you can, I did.

Yes that’s what I have in my 2002 Mk1.

are they from a later FABIA  or just aftermarket ones

Mine came from Halfords

Ditto

If fitting an aftermarket one you will need a signal booster as the standard radios have them built in but aftermarket ones don't. The are quite cheap.  There are different types to suit different aerial connections - for example PC5-90 and PC5-52. Connect the blue wire of the booster to an ignition live. The radio reception will be terrible without it. They are available on ebay.

Also, VAG radio wiring is the other way around, so you need to swap the red and yellow feed wires when fitting aftermarket units.

Search for "Mechless" ones unless he has a CD fetish.

Usually much more room behind the unit to stuff wires etc.
