Yeti 4x4 rufty tufty styling ideas

Recommended Posts

I have a 4x4 Yeti and as its my toy I want to give it a more rugged off road styling update but haven't found any stuff to do it, has anyone else done this a added bull bars, lifted suspension/snorkel, extra lights and roof rack?  I love the car and is cheap on insuring/tax compared to my old Jeep so would love to make the mini beast look like it can really go offroad.....also thought of having a wrap too to change the colour which is the ****ty brown colour which hides the mud great but would like a change. I got the car cheap off my father in law with 9000 miles on the clock for £7000 which i think is a bargain? its also automatic and it will be a keeper for sure. he has since bought a horrible Toyota Aygo......he can't even see out of the rear windows due to the dark tint....horrible little car. So if anyone has any links to companies selling Yeti addons they are most welcome and if you have done your own I would love to see photos for ideas.

Bull bars would be illegal on a UK registered car unless they are made of a soft material.

No-one makes a snorkel.
Never seen a UK lift kit.
Due to the Canbus system adding extra lights isn't easy.

Personally can't see the point.

There is a thread in this section with 'Sump Guards' that a member manufactures. I think that was maybe in Romania.

There is another on the Suspension Kit that was available for the Emergency Services using the Yeti and there is no Type Approval issues or Insurance,

just Declare with your Insurer or a Specialist Broker.  Maybe a Forum Sponsor.

EDIT.

There are Light Bar threads on the low down ones & brackets, if you search, these can be fixed up on the front of a carrier rack,

and various Yeti Suspension threads as well.

Next time someone says to me  ....  "I don't know why you buy new cars all the time .... you lose such a lot of money on them,  why not just get a nice secondhand one and save yourself loads of dosh"...

I'll just direct them to these two clips (admittedly mainly the second one).

I wonder if Allams told the prospective owners of the cars that had been greenlaning that they would do well to check the underside for scrapes and dents?

Or how many times have I seen little old ladies with blue tinted hair or elderly men wearing a hat in a Jazz or Micra, revving the nuts off & slipping the clutch to within an inch of its life - or - routinely yanking the wheel lock to lock whilst stationary as they (unsuccessfully) negotiate a parking space?

I guess the valeting department and a dent removal specialist in a main dealer can make a secondhand car look quite presentable but seeing the Youtube clips of, apparently, newish cars being abused reminds me why I pay the extra and get a new one.

(PS. Why am I thinking I'm leaving myself open to a load of abuse from certain quarters of the site?)

The 'Yeti Adventure' video that Skioffski shows above is from the early days - 2011.  Am I right in thinking that none of the members involved are still with us?  900000 hasn't posted since he parted with his Yeti last summer.

Here's the topic, if you're interested in the background https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/192670-yeti-adventure-surrey-4x4-lane/

Better not look at the things I do then, Stan!!
It's a 4x4, it's designed to take some rough tracks.
To be honest the tracks in the FIRST (edit) video are not a lot worse than many back roads you will find in some parts of Europe.
And I've driven some green lanes and forestry tracks that are smoother than some of the roads around here!

I did say I thought the second clip was a bit tamer than the first.  In the first I quite clearly heard a couple of horrible noises which can only have been attributed to lumps of rock making contact with sundry bits of the underside ... be that bodywork or bits of transmission or whatever (clearly I know not what but I wouldn't want any car of mine to have been treated like that by someone else then palmed off on me).

And my point about unseen abuse in less hostile surroundings still stands ... the clutch, gearbox, steering are all bits that we've all seen abused - maybe some of us have inflicted a bit of the same ourselves?  They taught me "car sympathy" at night school when I was younger, and it still resonates after all this time.

Stan,
I've editted my post, I meant the first video.

And that was the first southern greenlane trip. Previous to that I'd run 2 events along the Clearwen Dam greenlane. There are threads here somewhere for those too.

@Sad555

It knows what it is and that is carrying up to 4 people with no luggage.

& £19,000 for an Automatic. When you can manage to get one.

Very high emissions and limited in number to the UK and Europe because the emissions are so high, because Suzuki would be penalised as they need a low average thanks to lower emissions models they sell.

On the Octavia mk3 section someone had an LED light bar added to the front grill, so shouldn't be too difficult to do the same and have it wired in.

How about going for landrover G4 orange, put on a chunky roof rack with spotlights on it, spare wheel on the roof, a shovel strapped to the side. Would be unique

I know i have driven the previous model for 18 years.

2 seater with space to carry stuff.

3 or 4 seater with not much space to carry stuff other than on the roof or on a trailer.

You want one of these.

Light Pods for Roof or Bonnet mounting with wiring harnesses and switches are not expensive.

Beginning to sound like a Matra-Simca Rancho.

Buy a new car every 5-6 years, that way you get all the extras YOU want, the colour you want and you know it is all new and not abused. Take out the longer warranty on purchase and you are good to go for 6 years and financially it balances depreciation if you keep the car for that time. Unless, of course, you have to have the newest and “best” every 2 years then it’s expensive!

All rcvd, Exp.

As we speak I'm a little over your recommended times .... both the little Hyundai i10 auto. and the Yeti DSG were bought new in 2011 (neither having been driven further off road than a grass verge on Dartmoor)

I keep thinking my next purchase(s)  could well be KIa, with their 7 yr warranty, or perhaps Suzuki given that my local dealer has an arrangement whereby they extend the vehicle warranty year on year provided they service it.

The Vitara has torque converter transmission and the little Kia Picanto does too.
