Yeti Adventure: Surrey

James at Allams has been trying to arrange a drive down a 4x4 only country lane for some time now. We have agreed a date and it will be Sunday the 27th of March. I've added a public poll above so we can all see who will be coming.

If anyone can help James with a Yeti to scout the lane before the 27th he'd appreciate that. I'm fully booked with a few weddings and the Geneva Motor show as well as doing a house up over the next month. Here is a view of the lane and why James would prefer to scout it first:

Just stumbled across this, can't believe this was over 3 years ago now! I remember it clearly, fun day out. Hope you guys are good and the Yetis are behaving.

  • About time we had another go!

Yes I know all the lanes in the area and I have done some of them in a Yeti but it was over a year ago and these lanes do change. I know to avoid the one above with adverse camber but there are a few other bits that I'd like to make 100% sure we can get over in Yetis before leading a pack down a lane only to find out it's blocked or impassable and have to turn back/reverse!

Hi James, if you can send me the lanes I might be able to find some time to cycle them before hand.

Mike

Good luck with this, but sorry distance and work precludes my attendance.

I'm not that far away from you, and may be able to scout the lanes with you. Just depends on available dates - PM me and suggest a couple?

I've pencilled in the 27th, and will keep it free for the big day! This has just got to be done!

you know you're going to have to organise another one of these, don't you, coz i can't make it :'(

my 4x4 may be built by then  but still the wrong side of the water :swear:

All are welcome. I had a look on some of the routes last night and the don't seem to be bad at all, they are a lot more passable than I remember. Most of the surface is either gravel or clay. Very little mud apart from one or two bits, as long as there is no huge downpour I can't forsee any issues!

Can we say meet a 0930 at http://www.bockettsfarm.co.uk/ Bocketts Farm?

Deal done! 9:30 at Bockett's Farm on the 27th of March! Thanks for arranging James. I can't wait!

Remember to order enough helipads for all Yetis coming!

No problem at all. Just a quick note, if you've got a 12v tyre pump make sure you bring it with you, if we get a bit of a downpour we may have to let the tyre pressures down a little just to increase the surface area a tad and you'll want to pump them back up again before driving back on tarmac.

I have a VAG one that has a special slot in the lowest boot floor that Merlinman kindly gave me! So I'm sorted. You can only use them for five minutes at a time though so I think it will take a long time to pump four tyres on one car let alone more than one Yeti! So the more pumps people can bring the better.

I used to have a few of them but I can't find them anywhere. I'll bring at least 1 with me and I'll try to have a couple of them to use.

Just to clarify-

Who is coming?

Allams- James

Rockhopper- Mike

900000 - Johann

jan25 - Ken (Sorry if i got your name wrong!)

Aerofurb, are you able to make it? I know you don't want to get your Tibetan too dirty!

If anyone is coming from Essex/East London you are welcome to borrow my ViAir.

It's a small portable off-roaders compressor that'll pump a Yeti tyre up from 0psi in 2 minutes and has a long flexible air line.

Quite light and same size as a car battery.

Thanks Richard. If you don't want to bring your 2x4 Yeti (I think?) why don't you bring the pump and come with me in my Yeti? I live in East London so not far for you to come/or me to pick you up...

9.30am sounds good to me. I'll bring my Michelin compressor

Mike

Sorry but cannot make this one.

Will endeavour to make any future ones if any are arranged.

Thanks, but I can't.

Trying not to have too many days out as we have the baby and I'm off to Castle Combe on the 9th April for a little track time with my tweaked VRS. Not really fair on my wife if I'm out all the time and working full time too. I've done a fair amount of off-roading with my Landrovers already, but I appreciate the offer.

 I understand no worries.

can anyone make a map of the route ?

when I get my Yeti I would love to try some 4x4 country lanes :)

I'm sure James can, BUT one should never attempt a lane on one's own. There will be no-one to help you get unstuck (should you get stuck) and I can tell you now the RAC Volkswagen T5 van won't be able to get there either! :giggle:

I learnt my lesson about going down lanes on my own. A years ago on one of the trickiest lanes in the area I was driving a Range Rover which decided to stop working and would not run, very annoying. Plus once I manage to submerge my Nissan Patrol in 3 feet of thick mud, it looked about 4 inches deep...

If you live in Leatherhead you'll know Bocketts Farm, there is a lane just on from there which is pretty nice and that leads onto another one which goes over Ranmore.

Are you chap with the 530d Estate by chance?

James is right,

NEVER

EVER

go green laning on your own, even on the most innocuous of gravel tracks.

Even the lane we did on the Welsh Adventure last year looks easy, with a hard surface, but if you broke down on that there is NO phone signal and up to a 10 mile walk to the nearest phone box!!

I guess you meant to say Johann and James is right?:giggle:
