I've got a 1.5 petrol DSG and I dont have any problems with it and had it since July 2018. Still like the car very much

  • When you look at a thread about this issue and see it running to about 45 pages it seems like everyone with a 1.5tsi manual has the problem and you then start panicking....have I done the right thing?

  • I must stress that I find the seats perfectly comfortable for at least the first hour+ of driving. My wife puts the problem down to me - having a bony bot. My good lady is in possession of a - how do

  • If they were all bad yins then then sales would be suspended. If 50% were wrong sales would be suspended,  sadly it could be 1% or 5% or10% bad and VW Group will just keep some getting very bad c

you should find that goes soon, we noticed it a few days after owning the car this time last year and were ready to contact dealer but it soon went and never returned

Thanks for that I will keep a check on it, wonder if it is very cold / winter weather related i.e. warmer air from engine bay landing on a cold surface?

It’s worth noting that a lot of car reviews, not just for the Karoq, cite the DSG system as being hesitant at times and lacking in smoothness at lower speeds.

For the Karoq, this was mentioned in both the What Car? and Carbuyer video reviews. The word “hesitant” crops up a fair bit. I suspect that there might be some overlap in owner’s experiences and that in some cases what they’re describing is inherent to DSG and not necessarily linked to the problems with the 1.5 litre unit.

I think I had better try to explain further!

In my experience as the owner and only driver of 6,500 miles in a Karoq (not other VAG vehicle) the car has NEVER lurched quite badly. After a short fast sprint today, there was a slight hesitancy whilst coasting briefly over a roundabout  in town, Im assuming the  DSG was waiting for accelerator/braking input as to what it should do next. This is an auto after all - it cannot know what will be expected of it in the future for certain. It gets it right  over 95% of the time. I put this down to a characteristic. If this is a fault or characteristic of the DSG I'm not sure, it is my first DSG. If this is as bad as it gets, its hardly worth mentioning to be honest. On acceleration the car quickly sorts itself out, picking the correct gear.

I had a comfortable, faultless 180mile journey yesterday in a mix of driving conditions - snow, ice, wet then dry roads. The car was a pleasure to drive and was faultless, even with heavy traffic and stop-start traffic jams/roadworks  on the M6. Not one jerk or lurch in 4 hours. And this is normal. If there is a problem it is very slight, and only when warming up, and also only in certain weather conditions.

I can't find the post that I was thinking of though there is a couple in the First Gear thread (page 22) that have jerkiness issues. One does mention that when driving slowly the revs vary uncontrollably which, like I said won't be doing the DSG etc. any good.

When I had my Passat DSG (apart from when I had a faulty mechatronic unit) it was very smooth and no jerkiness, which is as it should be.

So I started this post to try and make it a positive and most people turned it into a negative experience one haha! I don't have a build week for my 1.5 DSG until April so by the looks of things, VAG need to have something sorted by then otherwise they could have a cancelled order!

I wouldn't if I were you! But only because you have ordered the 1.5 tsi with the DSG spec. Both the 1.5 engine and DSG gearbox are excellent, as is the car.

I sold my last car , a top of the range Kia Sportage for a huge loss after a year as I disliked it that much. The two cars previous to this were BMW 330D's. And I rate the Karoq SE L higher than all those.
