Barbecue weather :D

-10 in East Kilbride this morning:mad:
started first time
I have just recently fully charged the battery overnight as I had a low battery condition due to the Dashcam staying on fully instead of in parking mode and the difference is noticeable on startup.

It was only -10C in England last night, the poor Scots had to cope with -14C and we had a barmy -7C in the Midlands. Chicago a -30C which was colder than the Antarctic.

Skoffski: if you put down the windows when the car is iced up isn't there a risk of detaching the carrier? I think I have read about this elsewhere.

During the current spell of cold weather I open up the car 15/20 minutes before I need to depart, place a small fan heater (1Kw) inside and let it do its' stuff. Simples!

The only problem I can see in that picture is what I can't see, the rear plate, you're risking a bit of attention there.

I'd be a bit peeved if any modern car couldn't cope with what a British winter can throw at it.

Define modern.

Launched in 2008, and my 2011 model has covered 160,000 miles now.

Dead she is not, but certainly showing her mature years, especially when it comes to waking up on a cold and frosty morning.

@MikeHig   Clear the glass first them. Don't do it when they are iced up.

Use Night Before  De-icer .(Not Car Plan Pre-Deicer.)   Or a Green House heater. Or both.

Do you take every post as being serious?

Well, in petrol engines I'd say "modern" is anything with digital EFI.   Any car I've had with that usually starts as easily on the coldest of cold mornings just the same as on a summers day.

Diesels I'm  not so sure about but even though the car is a 2008 design a 2011 will have the later CR engine won't it? So I'd class that as modrrn.

We've been lucky and only had about -4 here and my 2008 PD starts just like any other day

Nothing like the Vauhall Cavalier D I had back in the late 80s. New battery and glow plugs every winter and still struggled to start.

My other set of wheels is a 1999 land cruiser colorado 3 litre td indirect injection 175k miles it had stood for a week or two unused I didn't even wait for the glow plug light to go out just turned and key and away it went. My skoda gets to sit in a nice warm garage, the central heating boiler is in there so the temp gauge says 9 or 10 degrees year round.

She just has a flutter for a few seconds.

Always starts on first turn of the key, and fires quick enough, but when its really cold she has a little wobble as the engine revs rise and fall for a second or two, but soon settles down to normal.

I can read your number plate under the dirt but your secret is safe with me and you can tell plod I could read it from over 100 miles away so must be legal.

I washed the rear lights, headlights and door mirror glass, but ran out of kitchen roll and feeling in my fingers to continue.

I need to top up the screen wash so it'll get done this weekend.

Ooo, how the other half live :D

My lowly SE doesn't even have the low level warning for the washer fluid, let alone headlight washers!

Skoffski: I thought it might be helpful. I was unaware of the potential problem until I read about it on another forum.

Not on the Superb, but the wife's car, worked a treat over the weekend whilst waiting for the wife and kids to get ready to leave the house!

After 5 minutes the whole car was defrosted and toasty warm.

That's pretty much what I do. Works a treat and 10p worth of electricity is much cheaper than loads of de-icer.

Likewise. At this time of year when icy I put a fanheater in the footwell and leave it plugged into my house outside socket which I can switch off/on from the inside of the house. I dash down in a morning before shower/breakfast and the car is toasty warm a few minutes later.

For safety I always tie a duster to the steering wheel rim to remind me I'm still attached to the house!

My S model does at least have a low level washer fluid warning so am surprised the SE doesn't - unless it was just added to the facelift models?

I think Skoda genuinely cocked-up on the spec of the pre-FL SE.

Thankfully they realised their mistake and fixed it for the introduction of the FL.
