DPF light but no fault codes

I have a 2012 Superb Greenlin 1.6 tdi. Few days back the DPF light turned on, but i notice that the light is not as bright as other warning light (fx. handbrake light and other light that appear when turning the key to ACC). I have done as the manual says, driving in lower gear for some miles. Did 2x 30 min on the highway. Have also tried DPF additive and no readings for error codes appear. Sound familiar to someone?

Are you saying that after doing those 2 trips that the light is still on? Is the light orange or red? Is there any text appearing on the MFD when it lights up?

 

You need someone with VCDS to diagnose this properly: with this you can see what the soot loading in the DPF is. You can also use it to trigger a manual regen of the DPF if it has a high soot load.

 

If you have very high mileage on the car, the DPF could be filled with oil ash and require replacement. This can be checked with VCDS also.

Yes still on. It is yellow and no info in the MFD. Only done 75.000 miles. Guess VCDS is the only thing to clearify. Thanks for the reply.

Install VAG DPF app - as long as you have ODB II Bluetooth dongle. 

The fact that the light is dim might be the clue here, especially this time of year. Where are you based?

 

Both the MkII Octavia and MkII Superb suffer from dry and weak solder joints on the back of the dash cluster / dials. If the car gets a little damp the moisture allows current leakage, especially as the car ages.

 

There are plenty of threads of various dash lights illuminating, albeit at varying levels of light intensity.

I live in Iceland. The car has been standing for the last 2 months for sale at a car dealer. Thanks for this input. Very helpful.

If it has been standing for 2 months in such a cold climate everything in the car will be damp, & as silver1001 has pointed out, this will cause small leakage currents in the wiring, PCB's etc.

You need to take the car on a good run, at least 1 hour with the heater at max & plenty of fan speed.

Crack the windows a bit so you get rid of the damp air from the interior of the car.

 

Alternatively you could put a fan heater in the car for a few hours, being carefull where you place it.

Again, leave the windows cracked open so the damp air can escape.

And if it has Climatronic, put on the windscreen defrost setting.
