Daytime running lights replacement mk3 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have recently replaced the dipped headlight on my 2014 vrs which was nice and straight forward. Unfortunately now my strip led daytime lights have stopped working, it seems moisture had gotten into the headlight and I'm assuming caused the problem (no way leds could be burnt out yet).

I've done some research as to replacing it and it seems I need to replace the whole unit... Is this the case? And is it the case that in order to do this the bumper must be removed?

I currently have rice wrapped in a muslin cloth in the housing (worth a shot)

I'd appreciate any feedback from people with similar previous experiences.

Definitely worth a shot at drying out the light unit inside. I had this issue a couple of years ago with my VRS after I changed a headlight bulb and didn't correctly screw on the cover on the back of the headlamp.

Left a few silica bags inside the headlamp for a couple of days and blasted in some warm air from a hairdryer. DRL started working again and has been fine ever since.

The LED DRL strip also has an - external to the headlamp - control unit. So it may be worth checking that too before replacing the headlamp.

Great that gives me a bit of hope so. Will raid the house for some silica and try that too. Any risk of it going on fire while in the headlight or did you just make sure the lights were off

Yes only had them in while car not in use. Not sure if safe to leave in whilst being used so didn't risk it.

So I used silica, hairdryer and it went... Then cameback (condensation) a couple of times. I left it open to air since the weather improved and it seems to be gone..... But not it seems the drl is too!

Is there an obvious connection one might try to see if it loose?

One of mine packed up too, but the full unit was £750 from Skoda or approx £300 off eBay 2nd hand.

I didn’t really fancy either of those, so I bought an knackered headlight (broken lugs, cracked case and lens etc) off eBay for £40, and then removed the LED part (see picture), to put into my existing headlight.

It takes some doing, as it’s a sealed unit, and I had to use a heat gun to warm up the butyl that seals the light, and then use a knife to cut the butyl, and wedges to prize the light apart, and also the bumper and inner arches need to come off, but it was the cheapest option and I like a challenge!

Fair play to you that's fierce going! What are the job of all the rods on the piece?

I think the hedgehogy looking part of it is a heat sink.

Hi,

Hope you might be able to help me out on this topic.

Just looked at a 2014 VRS today with a view to pudchasing and one thing I thought I noticed was there was a portion of the passenger's side daytime running light (approx. 2 inches) that seemed to be shining brighter than the rest of the strip.

Is this something that people have seen before?

Thanks in advance!!
